I could never undertake the chore of learning a foreign language on my own from a practical experience. He never met a stranger. Gholam Jarrahi from Tehran, Iran, had been en- rolled at Rowan Tech only eleven months when he met his death in an automobile accident. The above quotations show that in this brief time he endeared himself to faculty and students alike. Arriving in America with only a rudimentary knowledge of written or spoken English, he elected to live away community of Middle Eastern students Q' 2 and to attend school where, as he said, I must learn Ghglam Jambi to speak only English. Gholam visited labs and classes in addition to those he was taking and asked questions so courteously and so eager for knowledge that no one could refuse to help him. Gholam not only tried to learn as much as possible about America, he helped us learn about Iran. As he saw his homeland suffer, he suffered and explained to us the reasons for the suffering. Deeply committed to the Islamic faith, he fasted and prayed for an end to the violence. On the last day of winter quarter, 1978, Gholam asked for extra assignments to be completed during the holiday. He demonstrated how much he had learned by taking exams in written form and making good grades. Thirty minutes later he was killed in a grinding crash, and we were stunned. All who knew him were challenged and enriched by the experience. Us on the annual staff feel he is a very important friend to all of us even if we don't know that face!!! fDon't feel bad if you don'tjerry.j For his understanding ways, his goofy actions, his brief mental state of mind thee heej he has been a fantastic person to know these last two years. Willing to help when and where ever he can, always up to something whether it be constructive, or mischievious, he always does his best. 5-Y x ,av F' fd 5 no T 'T DEDICATIGN ...Hi We, the people ofthe Annual Staff and Rowan Tech, wish to dedicate the 1979 Spectrum to Anganetta Anderson. She led us through the toils and troubles of meeting deadlines, coming to our rescue when we needed an advisor, boost- ing our spirits when they had been drained from us, and most of all just being there when we needed her most. This individual not only gave us her valuable time, but herself as well. She put every effort forth that she could to help make this annual a fantastic success. All kinds of songs they played for me, From swamp music, To being a breeze, But never a song about the seas. Their bird flew free And he flew wild, And still not a song about a child. From MCA to Alabama They took three steps And hit like a hammer. Like a traveling band from town to town We all knew their name and never once did we p ut'em down. sie ss. Nu They give them a T in Texas And a T in Tennessee But I give them 21 G For the greatest band you'll ever see! All the Saturdays were special People came from miles around To hear the Whiskey Rocker-Rollers Make their greatest sound. Their Tuesday's gone And like the wind This group one day Will have no end. This Hne group we will miss But who am I to say that this is it? ,..v -',, ,-'F -IT! ff u 1 ' i saw, J 2' i I' 5 J,-3-j.., a . The rays of the sun gleam on the leaves and the dew still clings to every blade of grass. Each little droplet shines like tiny diamonds. What a beautiful scene this mal-tes and now the sound of day begins, The sun completes its rising, the dew fades away, and the leaves put on their hundreds of colors that brighten the sky lines and the earth. Dawn! What a beautiful way to start a bright new day. gwxy Loneliness I stand on the outside looking in, and I think, So this is loneliness. I walk the street and all around me is the world, but to me I am by myself. And I know this is loneliness. I and my soul always seem to be alone, without a love one, with the consoling thought that I don't really matter. It's the hearts and souls that maybe in my small way I touch and then without a thought go on my way knowing this is loneliness. So this is loneliness. Something that no one should ever have to be with, But again I know that the world shares in the thought this is loneliness. I walk down the lane at night and the trees seem to say, There he is, alone again. The moon seems to be seeking out someone for me, But gives up, for there I am alone again. The breeze shakes the trees as if they want to help, but there I am alone again. The gentle breeze caresses my cheek as if to make things right But I am still alone again. God seems to take me in his presence and then ascends into his heavenly body and leaves me to know these words, So this is loneliness. And then I know that this world and my thoughts must return. The only thing that seems to comfort me is this loneliness which you can't share with anyone. For in the heart of man's fears is .... loneliness. f X 1 ' f of I Q .20 ng, I f Jwn Iwi 'Q' -it 5 it , :elk veg N I I am Alive!!! Hey! I am alive! I feel the wind against my face I dream of tommorrow I cry at the loss of love I hurt because I am man I have the foresight to thank God I am alive. I see the stream flowing over rocks and down the banks I see the billowing white clouds I see the sun as it warms the earth I feel the rain as it gives its life-giving water And I feel this is the time of year that our hearts turn to love The Love of man and the Love of God and just to love. Hey! I am alive! I must be, for I feel all of these things. tis Be Friends This morning I awoke with love in my heart with longing for some sort of need on her part, but all I got was first, Let's be friends. How can I make her see that I need and love her with all my heart. But there is still lingering this thing called, Let's be friends. Let's be friends, how lonely it sounds. Never just yours, but belonging to everyone. I care for you, but I just can't commit myself other than, Let's be friendsf' I dream of home with God taking care of her and bringing a little Joy. But, no, the words va are really cutting me in half, Let's be friends. They are small, but carry a lifetime of sadness with them. I know of no way out for me but to make up my mind that I have lost to the words, Let's be friends, The Theme of Spring The theme of Spring is all around. The red bird sits on snow covered branches. The Robin scans the ground for a few insects, The flower buds peek out to see if it is time to come out yet, then settle back to wait a little longer, The grass hides, still patiently waiting for the gentle rays of the sun to come and warm it, Mother Earth waits for the Spring to bring forth with all the glories of the fresh new Springg new trees, new green grass to carpet her barren ground, and the everlasting fresh air to bathe the earth anew. And as all the Springs of the past, the young at heart turn to Love, What a theme, Spring is here at last, gone is the savage winter with its snows, cold winds, dark clouds, and bare limbs. Soon to be replaced by the well-awaited Spring flowers, the first birds of the coming summer. What a wonderful scene this will make. Spring is hereg we could do without it, but what a dreary world this would be, one without the other, C X xg .tg A 7 , ' VY 'I by f' , ,, -l ,. tfy ' 'fc-1 X0 I L c i f .fe f- ie. 4 1 gf . yr f I f, It -X 4, ' f ' f Z V 1.
