STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT Again the SPECTRUM reflects the efforts of students who wish Rowan Tech to have its best foot forward. The SPECTRUM staff and the many contributors are to be complimented on the fine publication which now be- comes a part of the written record of the Institute. While the basic purpose of Rowan Tech is to assist people in becoming effective wage earners, the faculty and staff is ever mindful of the re- sponsibilities of developing people to live in our complex industrial democracy. It is my belief that the yearbook publication is among the many ways Rowan Technical Institute contributes toward these goals. The faculty and staff join me in wish- ing success to each of you. Each of you remain a part of Rowan Tech. Sincerely. C. Merrill Hamilton President Z1-1. T x 5 ,, t rv- Z li., i

HI TORY In this, our second annual, we have recorded historical highlights of Rowan Technical Institute. This institution has trained students and imprinted desirable traits in the Mid-Piedmont area for nine years. Founded in 1960, Rowan Technical Institute traveled a stoney road marked by steady growth. The school opened its door to the first group of full-time students on Septem- ber 3, 1963. During the first year, students were enrolled in seven pre-employment trade education programs and a variety of short courses. In recognition of its successful beginning and its potential for broader service, the school was designated in March, 1964, as Rowan Technical Institute. This develop- ment brought with it further opportunities and responsibilities for service to the people of the area. Rowan Tech currently offers programs in occupational trades, practical nurse educa- tion, two-year technologies, and basic adult education and provide learning laboratories for extension programs. Along with this, we have many extracurricular activities, such as the Chorus, Student Government Association, Business Society, etc. The Institute is administered by a Board of Trustees composed of twelve educational, business, industrial, and civic leaders. It is supported by public funds from local, state, and Federal sources. Through these funds we have appropriated enough money to construct an additional building. This building is in construction and should be fully completed for next year's use. Every phase of community life has been and will continue to be touched in generations to come by Rowan Technical Institute in all of the successful advancements in the future. 17
