mi Memories We’ve Collected to Give to You. e )4pe S5 5 an? paoe 5 CO MIN’ HOME The sun gradually rose over ROVA High School as the students filled it with great anticipation. It was Friday, October 5, 1973, die morning of our annual Homecoming. The day continued and after watching numerous skits and the burning of die dummy, the sun was still shining for the parade. That evening, the players tried hard but couldn't defeat Abingdon. Naturally, that didn't hurt the spirit of the dance on Saturday. The band, Carcass, added to the feeling of a great Homecoming. The highlight was coronation, and a happy Janice and Dave. The theme of this year's Homecoming was Together We’ll Get Stronger Everyday. Truly, one to remember! a Sophomore Att. Knowing well the responsibilities of the year, we began early in preparation for the May 4th Junior-Senior Prom. Our first undertaking was a money-making project. We were fortunate enough to be given all of the concession stands during the football season. (Many of us forgot that we also received the honor of cleaning up the football field every Saturday morning.) In October, we took part in the Homecoming activities. As a result of a lot of hard work we captured first place honors with our float entitled Won-A-Day. In January, our candy sales were somewhat of a disappointment as we lost around $150 worth of candy. In March, we presented the ORIGINAL King Kong (a movie starring Fay Wray and the great Kong). This turned out to be a real hit with the kids, and especially with Mr. Paul (our esteemed leader), who came back to see it a second time. There were many more activities in which the junior class participated this year. Most activities were directed toward making money for prom. Many people wonder if so much work and worry is worth the outcome. But for those who chose to participate, the reward for all the. sweat was not simply in prom, but in the experiences themselves. We learned a great deal about budgeting, planning, and working with each other. Prom is not an entity in itself. As our class motto reads, THE REWARD OF A THING WELL DONE, IS THAT THING! Several paper drives were held in which the club collected tons of newspapers and magazines. They also worked with the IOC in landscaping the area between the cafetorium and high school. Benches were put up and trees planted to fill up this vacant area Because of the Energy Crisis, though, the club did not participate in any field trips. 115 “He Who Owns the Soil, Owns Up ■'7 ' ® _ to the Sky!” Dave Rylander, Bob Larson Foundation Award Winners L-R: GREENHAND OFFICERS-J . Besides just having a new room there are also new features. We have guest speakers during study halls, a weekly movie and even an LMC Scoop. The senior float entry is a typical example of our pioneer spirit; we really braved the elements. Our basketball team and play cast will long remember the Holiday Inn, (better known as Salter-Pogue Manor) as well as the streakers. And who could forget our senior picnic when we roasted wienies and peanuts, had pork chops and taco bellies and drank coffee. In passing I would like to leave you with a poem that may make life much more enjoyable for you. If you put your nose to the grindstone rough And you keep it down there long enough. In time you'll see there's no such thing As brooks that babble and birds that sing. These three will all your world compose--Just you, the stone, and your darned old nose. P. S. How could I forget the peace sign on the football field. Dave Erickson Senior Class President 130 KATHY ADAMS All the flowers of all the tomorrows . . . I have been asked to write a few lines for this book, but unfortunately I'm not a writer of verses or poetry, so instead I'm taking advantage of this opportunity to thank all of you for everything which you have done to make my stay here such a pleasure. Thank you for that Hi , for that sweet smile which you gave me some days, for the patience you had when I didn't understand, thanks for letting me listen and learn within the friendly walls of ROVA. Thanks to all the football and basketball players for the games which I enjoyed very much. Thanks for the daily lunches, especially the desserts which I like so much, thanks for letting me attend your classes. I am not only here to learn a little English, I was mostly interested in getting to know your customs, and thanks to all of you I have succeeded. These five months among you have been a great experience for me, you have shown me that which is the nicest thing in life-friendship. Thank you for having let me come abroad. At all times you have given me such hospitality that the time has passed so rapidly and enjoyably. That which has interested me the most is the great initiative that you have for each thing, especially las fiestas , I liked very much the 50’s day and dance. I know that with this initiative that each of you possess you will get alot out of life. I wish each one of you the best of success. I don't know all of your names, but I know each of your faces, therefore I ask, that if one day you visit Peru and pass through the city of Arequipa look me up and I will Welcome you with open arms and with much happiness. I am sure that my family will do the same since they know very well the nice people of ROVA. Anna And Her A merican Sister, Kathy 4o a Senior Personalities Class Clowns Jeanee C.F.
