They were under the leadership of coaches Bill Wise, Jeff Brown, and tri-captains Bob Sornberger, Tom Holmes, and Gary Holt. The Fighting Tigers line-up consisted of seniors: B. Sornberger FB, C. Naslund HB, T. Holmes HB, G. Holt C, J. Clark G, S. Main E, S. Haynes E, D. Boyer E, D. Salter E, W. Chasteen HB--and juniors: H. Magnuson QB, D. Bjorling HB, M. King G, R. Holman T. Dale Bjorling did not see much action this year due to a broken leg, but he will be back next year to lead the Tigers with Howard Magnuson and Mike King, tri-captains for the 1970-71 season. 25 Practice Prepares and.. . Many ingredients to a good football team are coaches, players, equipment, managers, and most important of all--PRACTICE. There is little enjoyment in practicing two hours every day of the week, going home to do homework, and getting up the next morning to start another long day. After months of sweat and fatigue, the time approaches to show what they have learned. They play the game to the best of their ability, but the other team has a fraction more skill. When ambition and confidence give way to disappointment, ask him WHY he plays football. Coaches Always on Top Left: Varsity Coach, Bill Wise. Center: Varsity Coach, Jeff Brown. Right: Jr. Varsity Coach, Bill Foss. Coach Wise Coach Brown Practice Pays!!! Away she goes! Gettin' tough!! How about a dance? j.V.'s Gain Experience for the Future The trophy winners for outstanding accomplishments in football are: most improved, Steve Haynes and Howard Magnuson; best offensive lineman, Don Boyer; best defensive lineman, Gary Holt; best defensive and offensive back, Bob Somberger. Lynn Bowman and Charles Martin kept football records for the Tigers. The team could not have made it through the season without these three managers: Larry Lawson, Larry Barnes and Jim Larson. 28 A Spirited Coaching Team ROVA dedicates its 1970 yearbook to the coaches who have donated their time, know-how, and encouragement to the ever-striving, never faultering football teams they have guided and drilled. Over the years, Coach Bill Wise and Coach Jeff Brown have given our schoo 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Little SiJ Tournaments. We are saddened by the loss of this duo. Jo, Judy and Jean Barb, Kemie and Rita Jan cheers for a victory We've GOT to have a touchdown Vickie cheers with a smile 31 FIGHTING TIGERS The Varsity Basketball Squad showed their outstanding ability this year by scoring 1682 total points to their opponents 1476 points. They were led to these many victories by their talented coach Bill Foss. This team proved that ambition, willpower and ability can be combined to provide an exceptional Tiger team.
