To guide our class’s efforts throughout our first year, Joann Berry, Bill Malcolm, Jim Nelson, and Ann Seiler were elected as class officers. Mrs. McNeil and Mr. Case were chosen as our class advisors. The class numbered 68 as we entered our freshman year, but dwindled to 61. Our sophomore year. Bill Malcolm was elected President, with Jim Nelson, Anne Moriarity, and Dale Fahnstrom as Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The title of our sophomore dance was “April Showers”. Our homecoming float rated only a fourth, but our basketball squad was second to none. 54 sophomores started the year, but our number fell again. Miss Clark and Mr. Messmore were the class advisors. As juniors, we found ourselves one year closer to graduation. We began in earnest to build up our treasury for the Senior Trip. Bill Malcolm and Jim Nelson were again elected to our executive staff with Estelle Bjorling and Nadine Carlson. Mrs. Upson, Mr, Case, and Mr. Schrauden-bach were our junior advisors. We received first place for our homecoming float and top honors in the magazine campaign. The “Angel of Red Canyon” was a great success both at our matinee and evening performances. Nadine Carlson and Bill Malcolm were our homecoming attendants with Sandy Sornberger and Gary Lundeen as our honorary attendants. Junior-Senior Prom, Scandinavian Holiday, was a big event for us all, and since we were in charge of it, there was an added thrill. September of ’57 found us re-electing Bill Malcolm as class President with Dale Tingleaf, Peggy Bloomfield, and Larry Johnson at his side. Queen Sue Nelson and King Jim Nelson were the crowned royalty at the ’57-’58 homecoming. Senior attendants were Ann Seiler and Dale Ting-leaf. This year we took first again with our homecoming float. Our senior class play, The Boarding House Reach, was also very successful. Our sales in the magazine campaign were not up to par and we came in last. The Junior Class entertained us at the Galesburg Club on May 17, and the next week we left for the Senior Trip going to the Kirkwood Lodge in the Missouri Ozarks. Baccalaureate on June first and Commencement on June second finished our high school careers. Then looking again through the window, we saw not the end but the beginning of other careers. It will support you when all other recreations are gone. It will last you until your death. It will make your hours pleasant to you as long as you live. Anthony Trollope PARTIES The Student Council sponsored the Christmas Dance which was held in a beautifully decorated study hall. The Glenn Edwards Orchestra provided rhythm for the dancing. KRIS-KRINGLE MINGLE SWEETHEART SWING The F. H. A. and 1.1. E. C. were co-sponsors for the annual valentine dance. Cupid was on the job as the couples danced to the music of the Glenn Edwards Orchestra. FARMER’S BALL Everyone in school really let his hair down for the Farmer's Ball. The square dance music and the calling were provided by the Reid Carson Orchestra. This dance, sponsored by the F. H. A. and F. F. A., was undoubtedly one of the best dances of the year. 49 HOMECOMING 1957 Friday, October 4, 1957, was the day long awaited by the Students at ROVA. It was a beautiful day made to order for our Homecoming. The day began by attending class meetings and voting for our king and queen. We then dispersed to our floats to finish decorating. Game time came soon and with hopes high we cheered the team. Our spirits were dampened a bit with our loss to Roseville, but soon it was dance time and all was forgotten. King, Jim Nelson and Queen, Sue Nelson were the reigning royal couple in the beautifully decorated gym. As the curtain closed on this wonderful homecoming day we left with hearts full of fond memories. 50 SENIOR PLAY THE BOARDING HOUSE REACH November 15, 1957 CAST Director........ Wilbur.......... We have had several meetings, and hope that the Tri-M will help to further interest in music appreciation in the school. 79 TRIPLE TRIBUTE We of the annual staff wish to recognize the fine jobs of Bonnie Young and Suzanne Nelson. Both girls have been extremely helpful, especially in the typing necessary for the publication of this yearbook. Mrs. Mary Ruth Messmore and Mrs. Willodeane Carlson became members of the ROVA Faculty at the semester this year. This was due to the resignation of Mrs. Delores Kratz in the P. E. Department and Mrs. Rose Ralston in typing. Nadine Carlson, our queen candidate from the band, was chosen queen of the Knox College Music Festival.
