They came from Waterloo, Illinois, where Mr. Rushing served as Assistant Superintendent, Baseball and Basketball coach, and Senior Class sponsor, Mr, Rushing received his Bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University in 1937, and his Master's degree from University of Illinois in 1948. He has been teaching for 15 years. Mrs. Rushing has also done some teaching. We have certainly welcomed a fine family into our community this year. Mr. Rushing is principal of the Sr. High School and also acts as Student Council Advisor and teaches Algebra II. Superintendent J. D. and Mrs. McKibben are here pictured with their two children Marian Kaye, age 10, and Howard Dee, age 12. Mr. McKibben has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and a Master's degree from the University of Illinois. His experience covers every field from grade 1 through 12 - teacher of every grade, principal of both grade and high school, county superintendent, and superintendent of the R. O. V. A. schools. Mrs. McKibben attended Knox College and received her degree from DePauw Universit at Greencastle, Indiana. Her teaching experience is limited to high schoo1's. Howard's ambition, right now, is to become a great athlete with no particular sport left out. Marian at present, likes to draw and paint, but her secret wish is to become a strong competitor with boys on the athletic field. Both Howard and Marian are studying piano, as well as baritone horn and flute. Here is a busy family who found a minute at their home in Altona to pose for this picture. Sharon, 7, has a good chance here to show off her new Easter outfit. Many students think all our teachers do is plan evil things for the next day, but here is a photo that proves they do take time out to eat. Teachers also find time to gather for an evening to chat and discuss school activities or maybe forget them. 1' .41 NNN c i A Nag , ......Q-3 ' A- Pi K 4 if 'H FAC LTY AT HUME C0 'T , . . 5 31 . . ,5 I Q! Harriman, At the start of the basketball season, there were four veterans returning from last year's squad. Coach Jim Pogue faced the hard job of building a team to live up to the records of his past R.O. V.A, teams. As the season progressed it found coach Pogue with a good R. O. V. A. team that would not give up under any condition. This ball club turned in a record of 15 wins and 11 losses for a better than average season. The Tigers opened their season with a close overtime win over Orion, and ended their season with a close loss to Cambridge in the Regional Tournament. During the Christmas season the Tigers traveled to Galva to participate in the Galva Tourney. They won two of the three games which led to the crown. Thus giving Galva the supremecy over the tourney and making R. O. V. A. take second place. In the Knox County Tourney which was played for the first time in the Knox College Memorial Gym, the Tigers were defeated in the first round by Abingdon, and they played in the consolation game to defeat Williamsfield and take third place honors. The championship was fought out between Knoxville and Abingdon in which Abingdon emerged as the champions of Knox County. This Page Sponsored by E. W.
