Track Gaining self confidence makes ladies successful 'jWe backed each other up and supported each other the whole season, senior trackster Ava Mercer commented about the Lady Dragon track team. Coaches Sandy Flora, Linda Pryor, and Vicki Bates helped us develop a lot of self confidence. Working with the second smallest team in the district, Head Coach Flora used the first four track meets as Hpractice meets in order to see where each girl would be able to use her talent to best help the team. Every girl was given the chance to compete at var- sity level during some part of the season. Some of the freshmen competed in varsity heats at the District race, while others raced for medals in the freshman division. .IA X ',, 'fix .53 s. , . - -i L, 9 Q, - 3, ' fa M Aft A... fi. Here, the Lady Dragons finished third behind Austin and LBJ high schools. The 250 weather did not seem to affect the girls as they carried home nineteen medals. Two ladies had excellent performances at the District meet. Senior Leslie Dean, barely recovered from an ankle injury, finished third in the hurdles at the meet, one position away from advancing to Regionals. Dragons have a .500 season. It was a rocky season for the Round Rock Dragon Baseball Team. With two consecutive District Championships under his belt, Coach Jim Wynne had to rebuild with the help of his three returning varsity players and settle for a 8-8 district record. As one faithful spectator stated, The team was better than the record shows. There were many good players and the future looks good as Coach Wynne will probably be able to get back to the playoffs next year, The Dragons seemed to perform well in front of the home crowd. Dragon senior pitcher, Dan Murphy, had an impressive record of 7-1, while Kevin Luerson and Scott Bradley, sophomores, were both hitting over .33O. Seeing that Wynne can bring out the better qualities in baseball players, the future looks pro- mising for the Rock, as they will have many retur- ning varsity players. All-District honorees were pitcher Dan Murphy and catcher Jerry Kadlubar, first team, first baseman Kevin Luerson and outfielder Lance Thames were chosen as second team players. Receiving honorable mention were third baseman Steve Staton and shortstop Wade Etheredge. 9 Receiving some last minute advice, Kevin Luersen, sophomore, prepares to bat. At the Austin Invitational Tournament, Danny Guthrie, A V M, iunior, hits to the Crockett defense.
