However, they did perform well and produced some strong tracksters for the future. Junior varsity competitors like Alex Dom- inguez in the 3200 and 1600, Authur Zamarripa in the 1600, Gilbert Martinez in the 3200, Jason Crawford and Neal Kimbro in the pole vault, will be depended on for consistent performances in the future. Talent from the freshman athletes like Dennis Witt, Brett Tisdale, Carl McClendon in the 3200, John Castillo in the 1600, Jon Davis and Mark Northrup in the sprints and Berry Earl in the relays, will be needed for future teams. Using these athletes as a nucleus, Coach Andy Moldenhaur will build and strengthen his track program and hopefully be able to send more tracksters to the state track meet than ever before in Dragon history. Track Gaining self confidence makes ladies successful 'jWe backed each other up and supported each other the whole season, senior trackster Ava Mercer commented about the Lady Dragon track team. Coaches Sandy Flora, Linda Pryor, and Vicki Bates helped us develop a lot of self confidence. Working with the second smallest team in the district, Head Coach Flora used the first four track meets as Hpractice meets in order to see where each girl would be able to use her talent to best help the team. Every girl was given the chance to compete at var- sity level during some part of the season. Some of the freshmen competed in varsity heats at the District race, while others raced for medals in the freshman division. .IA X ',, 'fix .53 s. , . - -i L, 9 Q, - 3, ' fa M Aft A... fi. Here, the Lady Dragons finished third behind Austin and LBJ high schools. The 250 weather did not seem to affect the girls as they carried home nineteen medals. Two ladies had excellent performances at the District meet. Senior Leslie Dean, barely recovered from an ankle injury, finished third in the hurdles at the meet, one position away from advancing to Regionals.
