Pacing the Dragons in consistent wins was senior Bernie Sill, who competed in the 3200 and 1600. Sill was the only Dragon that moved on past the District track meet. Tony Pollacia placed third at District as he ran the 400. Tiger Hanner placed fourth in the pole vault as fellow teammate Mike Jones placed fifth in the same event. The mile relay, which included David Hunecke, Wayne Pfluger, Ray Solis and Tony Pollacia, finished fourth at the meet. Coach Andy Moldenhaur commented that the highlight of the season took place at the Round Rock Invitational Meet. The Dragon 1600 relay team finished second close behind Ellision and ahead of Killeen High School. Pollacia gave the credit of the suc- cessful meet to the parents. Pollacia stated, I feel most team members ran well at home in front of mom and dad. Outstanding young prospects to be wat- ching for are Kevin Luerson in the discus, Scott Bradley in the shot, Tiger l-lanner in pole vault, Robert Cordes in the 400, Greg Guerrero in the 800, Brian Noblin in the 3200 and 1600, and Peter Davis in the long jump. 'il was continually impressed with the team effort and high finishes throughout the season with the few number of participants. That indicates we may not have had quanti- ty, but we certainly had quality, concluded Moldenhaur. DesignfStory by DeLynn Beebe.

However, they did perform well and produced some strong tracksters for the future. Junior varsity competitors like Alex Dom- inguez in the 3200 and 1600, Authur Zamarripa in the 1600, Gilbert Martinez in the 3200, Jason Crawford and Neal Kimbro in the pole vault, will be depended on for consistent performances in the future. Talent from the freshman athletes like Dennis Witt, Brett Tisdale, Carl McClendon in the 3200, John Castillo in the 1600, Jon Davis and Mark Northrup in the sprints and Berry Earl in the relays, will be needed for future teams. Using these athletes as a nucleus, Coach Andy Moldenhaur will build and strengthen his track program and hopefully be able to send more tracksters to the state track meet than ever before in Dragon history.
