Soccer limps to Injuries plagued the Varsity Dragon Soc- cer team, but a winning record of 6-5-1 eased the pain. With only Ronnie Sledge and Juan Vargas as returning varsity players, Coach Gary Martin was pleased with the winning attitudes and the success of the team. Martin considered the varsity men as nothing but first class. Strong on desire and dedication led to a strong immediate unit, ,while a nucleus developed for future years. This young team will re-lay the foundation that was set before the split of the high school. One close game that the Dragons will winning season remember was the game against the Reagan Raiders. Tied at the half, 1-1, a last minute goal by the Raiders left the Rock down by one, closing the game with the score 2-1. Three seniors will be missed as they set an example of determination which was a key in rebuilding the team. Martin commenting about the team as a whole stated, These men were dedicated and willing to try anything. Injured on the sideline, Norman Franco, junior, and Warren Cannon, senior, watch the action. Soccer captain, Ronnie Sledge, senior, concentrates on moving the ball down the field. K W Hsu? Elms Q-fliriir 5 lv Six, P is f N ts s 'XX' . , Boys struggle for use of gym Working with mostly inexperienced gym- nasts, Coach Brandy Haney described the boys' season as a struggling one. It was a rough year, remarked Haney. There were a lot of injuries and sickness. The boys had a rough time working out as they shared the gymnastic facilities with the rest of the Round Rock gymnastic teams as well as Westwood's gymnasts. Practice came at 7:30 a.m. and then again during third period class. Haney recruited two tracksters, Neal Kimbro, and Jason Crawford, to add to the talents of Jim Phillips, Dale England, and Darren Phillips. With six returning athletes, Haney is look- ing forward to a better season next year. The junior varsity girls continued their record of never being beated in regular gym- nastics meets for the second year in a row. The team was small and consisted of mostly beginner gymnasts. The JV team received many compliments, and the girls stuck together throughout the season. Competing on the pommel horse Marin Juarez senior demonstrates his flair. The 1981-82 junior varsity girls gymnastics team members are Diane Krueger, Monica Stelly, Tisa Davis, Coach Brandy Haney, Brettne Taylor, Lisa Short, and Carol Logan.
