They put their talents together to develop a strong basketball program for Round Rock. Under the direction of Coach Seigler, the junior varsity team learned strategies and gained experience. Even though the junior varsity's records of 8- 20 lseasonl, and 2-16 ldistrictl, were not necessarily impressive, there were several highlights in the year. The JV team brought home a second place trophy from the Lago Vista Varsity Tournament. In another varsity tournament, which included three state ranked varsity teams, Round Rock's JV won the consolation prize. , , Coach Seigler added that the biggest highlight of district play was the Rock's victory over Waco University in a tight game ending 34-32. Junior basketball player, John Beer, commented, The record reads that we lost more than we won, but I feel that we won more because of the team effort that was put forth. Above the defense, Richie Woods, sophomore, takes a jumpshot. ,want W , 's:: IQ- . Fish lose game but not spirit It takes dedication and guts to keep going when giving up would be so much easier. This dedication and guts kept the two freshman Dragon basketball teams from giv- ing up when things looked bleak. Neither team won a single district game, but both teams challenged their opponents in the second half of district play with some games ending with the Rock down by three or less points. The A team came close to beating the Copperas Cove Bulldogs twice during the season but in both games, the Dragon boys fell one point shy of victory. Short on ex- perience and height, the B team was led by the scoring of Tommy Waggoner and Mark Fenske. Coach Mike Atchley and Coach Mike Peebles never gave up on either team. Freshman Mark Kadlubar said, Our coach had faith in us. We never gave up. 'Throughout the bad times of the long year, the young men kept a positive at- titude. Knowing they would never quit against any odds made working with them a coach's pleasure, concluded Atchley. Another shot goes up by Dragon Clay Hopkins.
