LA TEST CRAZE Video zames hazardous to health Solid meals are a thing of the past for many ound Rock High students. Students pushed the ealthy school lunch aside and replaced it with Mr. nd Mrs. Pac Men, Asteroids, Phoenix and an occas onal Defender for the really hungry students. Many have been overcome by a new scientifically iscovered disease called Videogamitis. Victims are rst striken by this tribulative disease when their rst coin is placed in the slot. Some terminal cases :ad to nightmares of Speedy devouring his Pac Man efore his enemy can eat an energizer. The most xtreme cases often lead to the purchase of an Atari home video game set, which costs from 400 to 5600, along with separate game cartridge l S20 up. 4 Teachers noticed a change in their classes and ften complained of the students' inattentiveness. istead of thinking of school work, players aydreamed of obtaining high score on their tvorite games, Tonya Bradley, junior, held the high :ore off'Pac Manu said, l really enjoy playing Pac lan because it is an easy way to relax and get away 'om school work. Arcades and video gamerooms seem to be ap- earing everywhere, even in the most unlikely laces such as grocery stores, laundramats, and zstaurants. Wherever there are arcades there are eople packed around games making them almost npossible to reach. Many students spend up to S20 n one arcade visit. One student, Sally Sisin, eshman, said, I spend about S15 a week on video amesf' Many students who work spend a great eal of their check on video games.
