You started something new. You started to think about the world around you by deciding not to have a traditional bonfire. You showed the rest of the school that you care. As you leave, you take with you many great things. You are taking from us scores of scholars and athletes. Being specific you are taking the District baseball champs. So, Class of '71, we wish you all the luck and success in the world. We know, though, that you don’t need luck because there is no way that you can fail in anything you do. You’ve got the stuff, and you can succeed. 61 The Last Will and Testament From The Senior Class of “1971 ” I WILL: Helmut Henning: Mr. Erdmann one bottle of Ripple wine (empty) with-or- without candle wax all over it. Jim Manwaring honored himself and Round Lake when, as a Sophomore, he captured 1st place in the County meet and 1st place in the Conference meet with a winning time at the conference meet of 15:37.8. Bob Friedle, a fine future runner, consistently finished third for our Varsity team. Bob has the talent and the team ex- pects much from him in the future. Cross 70 19 Country Dan Carter, the team’s Most Valuable Player, finished his last Cross Country meet with a first place in the Confer- ence race at Adler Park with a time of 15:08.7. This is Dan's last year and he will certainly be missed. Small but mighty Ron Nelson, in his second season, was a steady performer for the team. He has the potential to be a good runner in the future. Mr. James Sertic, golf coach. 152 Back row, left to right: Mr. Sertic, coach: Rusty Checchin, Bill Horvath, Ted Kulidge, Tim Quane. Friedle. B. Nelson. Mr. Evers: Coach. The R.L.H.S. track team did not show a good record in the win loss column, but showed a great amount of spirit. Although we didn’t win any meets, we had some record breakers. In the two mile run Dan Carter, a junior, broke Ray Nofsinger's old record of 10:51 by 32 seconds. Ken Costello, a senior, tied the school record of 11:7 at conference after three years. Mr. Evers, head coach, hopes to have a great team in '72 with such sophomores as John Oaf, Jim Manwaring, Bob Friedle, Ron Nelson, and the others. 153 Track Stars w Ken Costello, graduating this year, is leaving with a record to be proud of. In his last meet, the Confer- ence meet. Ken vaulted 1 T7 to tic our school record that up to this time was held solo by Jim Burgett. He took a 3rd with that vault at the Conference meet. Ken will certainly be missed by everyone next year. Dan Carter, another who will not be with the track team next year, also leaves with an undisputably great record. If you went to the meets you would be certain of that, because there wasn't a meet where Dan didn't break some kind of record. He broke Ray Nofsingcr's 2-mile record several times, finally ending with a time of 10:19, the old record being 10:51. Dan also came within 3 seconds of the school mile record with a time of 4:41.3 when he ran at the District meet. Jim Manwaring, coming back next year, will come back holding several records. Jim set the conference record in the Frosh-Soph mile with a 1st place time of 4:46.9. He also holds the school record in the mile his time being 4:46.0. Added to his other achievements is a second place in the mile run at the county meet. Bob Friedle, who last year broke the Frosh-Soph 2-mile school record, broke it again this year. Last year's time was 10:58. This record was broken several times by Jim Manwar- ing and Ron Nelson, but Bob has still kept possession of his record with the fastest time ever taken by a Frosh-Soph run- ner at Round Lake, that being 10:40 flat. Bob Friedle will also be back next year, and we all will be looking for Bob to break a few more records. Back row, left to right: G. Seiler, K. Blank. D. Fremarek. B. Burgett. J. Rosenthal. K.
