Senior Class Officers Upon entering high school as freshmen, they had no idea of the fun, excitement, triumphs, and disappointments that awaited them in the following four years. In their fresh- man year, they entered a float in their first homecoming parade. As sophomores, they held soc-hops and participated in many other new and exciting events. Then, as Juniors, they won first place fortheir homecoming float. They also received their class rings, and they pre- pared for the Prom. They decorated the gymnasium and elected the queen, who reigned at the finished product, Wonderland by Night. The final year arrived, and they prepared for homecom- ing, which included the bonfire, the game, and the dance. Sailing Down the Sea of Memories was a great success. We also raffled off a radio. The proceeds of this raffle will help us meet the expenses for the Junior Prom next year. The Freshman Class at Round Lake Community High School is involved in a variety of learning, social, and organizational activities. Since the learning experiences are for the most part chan- nelled by a staff of skilled educators and guid- dance personnel, the officers and sponsor of the Freshman Class concentrate on the social and organizational features of the class. Foremost among the activities of the Freshman Class are meetings which teach the students proper par- liamentary procedure and solidify its members into a vital body which for the next four years would play an intricate role in the activities of the school and community. The preparation of a Freshman float for the Homecoming, the Pre- sentation of a skit at the Talent Show, the pro- motion of Sock-hops, and the sale of school- promotional car plates represents a cross-section of the activities of the Freshman Class. The R-Lettes, going into their tenth competitive year, have brought many honors to the Round Lake area. Headed by their new drillmaster, Mr. Gordon Brewer, the girls have achieved outstanding recognition from surrounding cities and states. The past summer has been especially prosperous due to the perform- ances given in such places as Evanston, Deerfield, and in Harvard, Illinois for their annual Milk Day Festival. In Maywood, Illinois, the girls had the privilege of kicking off a corps show. At South Milwaukee, for the Spectacle of Music, the girls brought back a fourth place, and for the first time in the R-Lettes history, they entered State National Competition in Peoria, Illinois where they walked off the field with a third place trophy. The R-Lettes made an excellent account of themselves by competing with units from all over the country in 27 different parades. No matter where the R-Lettes march, the audience always seems to enjoy their precision drills, and their exceptionally good reputation and high standards have never been matched! Yes, the R-Lettes All Girl Precision Drill Team has proved to be the pride of our school and town by showing their ability as top performers. The snappy Color Guard presents orms. They played hard, exciting football and took the team every game they played. The fifth place finish in the NWSC was accomplished on the last day of the season against Grant and only served as an example of their desire by the ability to overcome injuries and other complications to produce a hard fought 6-0 victory. They lost some close games but they can hold their heads high as the student body, coaching staff, and community are proud of their efforts. The outlook is bright for the future as well. To compliment a group of experienced Juniors we have the Championship Frosh Soph team anxious to step in and take their place as Panthers. 96 Hang on sloopy. I got you babe. Although primarily not a performing group, fundamentals of music were stressed instead. Emphasis was upon the incorporation of harmony into a melodic line. Twelve strong- hearted baritones daily challenged the physical limitations Mother Nature had placed upon their changing voices-and survived! For the Christmas concert, the sopranos in red and the altos in green created the tra- ditional Christmas spirit. Let us not forget those handsome baritones in their bright red sweaters and vests! The Freshmen's renditions of O Come Emmanuel and The Christ- mas Song with Arlene Hoffman, Sue Bowman, and Valerie Kaminski singing the solos were commendable. The name of the group was changed due to the expanded enrollment in the band de- partment. This increase in enrollment provided a more balanced instrumentation, which in turn made it possible to perform works of a greater difficulty than had been attempted in the past. The first performance of the symphonic band was at the Christmas program It's Christmas Once Again, presented in conjunction with the choral department. The result of this joint effort was one of the most successful programs ever presented at Round Lake High School. There were 611 in attendance which is the highest recorded as to date. Many new additions to the concert aided in its success. There was a new approach to the concert by the usage of the stage, lighting effects, and decorations. One highlight included a novelty number, Night Before Christ- mas , which was performed in pajamas! The usage of student conductors and Freddy Priemer's solo accompanied by Girl's Glee, illustrated the many musical talents in our school. This concert also introduced the Choraliers, which is known for its distinct blend of singing. The finale number was a combination of all choruses and the band. The entire program was made into a record, which is another first made by our talented music department. 124 What It Was Like . In 1961 .. . In 1962 . . . To be part of the Christmos scene. The objective of the Home Economics Club is to bring together girls who are interested in working to better the com- munity. Throughout the year, the girls plan and carry out various projects; parties, and field trips. The major project every fall is to make cookies and candy and deliver these to a Children's Home in time for Hal- loween. This year the candy was given to the Lake Bluff Children's Home and was greatly appreciated. Another main project of the club is to enter a car in the annual Homecoming Parade. The theme of their car this year was They're Headed For a Grave Defeat,'' which won them a third-place rating. As a fund-raising project, the girls sold semi-precious necklaces and key chains. The project will go for a scholarship to be given to the most outstanding senior girl. Bi-Phy-Chem Standing: Mr. Wennerberg, Sponsor. Seated, left to right: W. Freiboth, B. Nevens, R. Hughes, M. This is done on his own time, either seventh period or after school, sometimes both. These students will receive no credit in the office for this work.
