In the fall of 1937 plans' were laid for a new high school build- ing and bonds were sold to the extent of 3l6,500. With the aid of the W P A the building became a reality and was dedicated on Friday, June 28, 1940. The program for this day contained memorable names such as Pastors Salveson and Ulring, Supt. Hubert, and Dr. John G. Rockwell, then State Commissioner of Education Since the dedication several changes have been made in the school to meet the larger enrollment. To accommodate the increase the orig- inal large assembly room was divided to allow for two rooms. One of the high school class rooms has served for many years as an elementary grade room. The basement lunch room was converted into an office for the superintendent and the upper floor office was assigned to the high school principal. A hot lunch program was inaugurated under the superintendency of Mr. Henry Roscoe. This now requires the assistance of two workers. Under Supt. Stoffel the district was increased so with the greater numbers from the rural areas the bus service has also been enlarged to three busses. The Rothsay School has made a mark in athletics as was evidenced with the seeding of the team in the district in 1949. In 1951 the team was the runner-up in the sub-district tournament. This year, 57-58, saw another step forward in the education field with the first adult evening class meeting for a course in typing. Since the dedication the school has been very fortunate in having the following capable men at its helm: Henry Roscoe, Victor Ball, Henry Retslaff, Alex Stoffel, and at the present time, W. E. Hubert. The Centennial Year marks a milestone of great importance for the Rcthsay School. During this year's celebration the mortgage on the new district, 850 will be burned at appropriate ceremonies. Rothsay can feel justly proud of the attainment. THE BURNING OF THE MORTAGE Mr. R. S. Cowie, Mrs. J. V. Lindberg, M . Rodney Ebersviller.
