Betty Sipes and Sharon Black, seniors, arrive for their daily grind. They, like 101 others, are transfer students. Nine buses aid in the program of transportation; many others walk, making a total enrollment of 273 in the upper six grades and 201 in the lower. Once in their home room, one of five, seniors answer roll, respond to lunch count (They're not raising their hands for the usual reason,) and have quickie business ses- sions. Beginning a schedule of eight class periods, most of which are 55 minutes long, Sharon pesters Mr. Montgomery with a question while Betty and the others quit talking and get busy.”

Homemaking class gives the girls a chance to study magazines for ideas. R.H.S. offers vocational, college preparatory, and business courses. Sharon serves her turn as office girl the seventh period. Betty has come to make that ever important telephone call. Some students have other versions to relate about office visits. The restlessness of last period study hall causes all students to pack early and watch the clock. Wayne is all set” to take off. Freedom at last. Freedom? . . . home- work, chores, Rainbow, and umpteen other distractions.
