F. Butt, our genial teacher and friend who headed our commercial department and served as junior class adviser for many years, was unable to resume his teaching responsibilities at the be- ginning of our school year because of illness. We were extremely saddened by his death on October 17, 1963. His students and friends will always be appreciative for his leader- ship, patience, and eagerness to help anyone in any way he could even if it meant money out of his own pocket. The lives of those who came in contact with Mr. Butt have been enriched by his many services. Pcqe 6 In Memorzdm I 71 Memorzdm Lawrence Larry,, Colapietro, our belived classmate, was born on September 11, 1946, and was a lifelong resident of Rossford. Larry participated in basketball and baseball and was named the most valuable baseball player at Rossford High in 1963. Bowling 9. 1964 fembr Cfvm I-hilary On September 6, 1960, at 8:22 a.m. our Freshman class met for the first time in the Rossford High School auditorium. Mr. Long and Miss Kimmel helped our class get organized. Cookie Reed led our class along with the aid of Sue Halloran, Vice-Presidentg Diane Duly, Secretary, and Cnydie Nlinarcin, Treasurer. Our freshmen cheerleaders who led our class in cheers were Joyce Rinker, Peggy Federici, Cookie Reed, and Diane Duly. Diane Duly also represented our class for basketball attendant. Craig Frederickson was our able-leading Sophomore class President with the help of Cookie Reed as Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Kohler and Mr. Cooney advised our class on the organization of our first project - the Christmas Ball - which was held on December 16, 1961. As the result of a theme contest, the ball was named f'Sleigh Bells Ring and was a huge success. Our basketball reserve team ended with a season of 7 wins and 9 losses. The girls who served as our reserve cheerleaders were Cookie Reed, Peggy Federici, Diane Duly, ,loyce Rinker, Joanne Snyder, and Kathy Bartosky. Six boys formed a group known as the Brass Sextet, which included two trumpets, a baritone, bass, trombone, and French horn. These boys played for special occasions. This year,s representative for the Sophomore class's basketball attendant was Joanne Snyder. After having accomplished our first successful project, the first thing we knew we were one notch higher in our high school life - juniors. For our noble leader we chose hard-working Linda Tadsen. To assist Linda were Dan Beck as Vice-President, Jan Williams as Secretary, and Jon Werner as Treasurer. Our Junior class advisors, Mr. Butt and Mr. Wolfe, got us started right away on September 6, 1962, to begin our Junior Magazine Drive. Our first joy was to select the style of our class rings and to place our orders. After what seemed a long wait, we finally received our rings with much excitement on November 21. Committees were organized to plan the J-Hop held on February 23. Our theme was lVloonlit Gardens with Moon River as the theme song in a garden setting. It was said to have been one of the best dances ever held at Rossford. Next we worked vigorously on the Junior class play, You Can,t Take It With Youf' starring Larry Sarver, which was presented April 5. Kathy Hatas had the play party afterwards. Cyndie Nlinarcin and Diane Duly were chosen by the student body as football attendants and Anna May Puse attended the basketball Queen. Diane Duly served as a varsity cheerleader while many of our boys played on the varsity football and basketball teams. On March 5, 18 students of our class became National Honor Society members, and after a hard camp- aign, Larry Colapietro was elected president of the Student Council for 1963-64. One of our very last projects of the year was to- honor the seniors at the Junior-Senior Prom, '4Preci0us Memories, Nlay 25 at Ashland Hall. Although it was sad to see our friends in the senior class graduate, we felt proud to be able to use the Senior Steps the last week of school in the spring of 1963. The members of our class in the National Honor Society decorated the field house for the Graduation Commencement Exercises held on June 7. With this done, we soon realized what had happened, we had finally reached the very top notch in high school - seniors! This was a long-awaited position whichwe all had dreamed of obtaining. The year began with the Page 512 help of our advisors, Mrs. Baggett and Mr. Deimling, by electing our officersri President - Steve Cervenec, Vice- President-Larry Sarver, Secretary-Kathy Batrosky, and Treasurer-Kathy Reiter. Various decisions were made. Our first job was to plan the football homecoming held on October 11. Kathy Reiter was chosen Queen and was attended by Diane Kotek and Diane Duly. We decided to buy our graduation caps and gowns in the color of maroon and white, we ordered our name cards and commencement announce- ments, and we all were jubilant when we received our senior pictures on Saturday, December 7. Don't Ever Grow Up,', our senior play, starring Wanda Zuchowski, was presented in the high school auditorium on November 15. Lynne Fleming held the play party for all the play cast and committee members. We received two Northern Lakes League Championships - one in varsity football and one in varsity bas- ketball. The football season ended with an 8 wins, no losses, and 1 tie record. The basketball team accomplished the feat of a 16 wins and 1 loss record. State standings resulted with Rossford in 12 place for football and 13th place for basketball. We also had an N.L.L. Champion wrestler, Larry Sarver, in his weight division. The senior girls who led in cheers were Joyce Rinker and Diane Duly. The basketball homecoming's royal court consisted of Cyndie Minarcin, Queen, and Joanne Snyder, senior attendant. Our Queen representative for the Toledo Area Student Council was Joyce Rinker, and our Area Y- Teens Queen candidate was Karen Henry. Numerous plans were made regarding the big events of the year. Such as: KU Scraping up enough money to go on the senior trip to Colonial Virginia and Washington, D. C.g Q21 The Junior-Senior Prom held in our honor on May 16 by the junior class at Sylvan Hallg f3j The rollicking Senior-Nite sponsored by the P.T.0'. on May 29, and ULD Graduation Day - May 3-1 -1- on which our commencement exercises took place for the first time on the football field. We also were the largest graduating class in the history of Rossford High School with 116 students. Although we have all these wonderful memories to look back on throughout our high school life, we have sad ones, also. Our class experienced the shock of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22. All mourned with the rest of the world on Monday, November 25. Two members of our faculty passed away-- Miss C. Collins, who was retired, and Mr. B. F. Butt, who served as our wonderful junior class advisor and started the D.E.C. program at Rossford. A loss of one of our own classmates, Larry Colapietro, on February 12 made a deep cut which will take a long time to heal. After graduation we will all go our separate ways, but we will go hand in hand trying to find our goal in life. Through these many experiences in the past, along with the ups and downs of our friends, families, and teach- ers, we will be able to face the future with maturity and knowledge. Our gratitude is extended to those who have helped to mold our lives - especially the teachers. Right now we don't seem to realize their full teaching value, but in the years ahead, their teaching and guidance will direct us in the paths of a meaningful life. The Class of 1964- has left its mark on the history books of Rossford High! 'sliver Loyal We Will Be Striving to Eternity . . . His fine leadership and understanding of the game and the boys that played under him contributed greatly to this championship team. He gave Rossford fans a season that will not soon be for- gotten. We congratulate Coach Jackson and wish him many more years of continued success at Rossford High. Page 109 Affzkmnf Combo' Mr. Joe Stalma, line coach, did a fine job again this year in producing one of the finest lines in the league. His valuable assistance, great spirit, and unrelenting drive were undoubtedly large factors in Rossford's winning the' championship. Congra- tulations, Mr. Stalma, and we hope to see you around for many more winning seasons. Mr. Rudy Federici, assistant line coach, was also the coach of the undefeated reserve team. His valu- able scouting reports were really a big help for the varsity team and, undoubtedly, were helpful to the successful season. Congratulations, Mr. Federici, for a job well done. Mr. Leroy Cot Marquette is Rossford's Freshman football coach and an assistant backfield coach. He provided some valuable information for the Bull- dogs by scouting their opponents. As Freshman coach he gave the boys individual attention in un- derstanding the fundamentals of football.
