G. H. Burns, Superintendent Sesqui-Centennial Thoughts The heritage of free Americans is the greatest birthright any people on the earth ever had. Great men wrote our constitution, courageous men cleared our wilderness and spanned the con- tinent, pioneer women contributed their sacrifice and toil. And in every generation there have been Americans who loved freedom more than life it- self--men who have fought that we might be free today. We owe it to them to preserve that freedom, what- ever the cost. And we owe it to those who come after us. For the American heritage belongs not only to us but to them. Congratulations, class of l953, on your choice of the State of Ohio Sesqui-Centennial theme for this year book. The one hundred fiftieth birth- day celebration of this great state will have real meaning if by a study of its past progress we are led to an even greater period of achievement. I envy you the chance you have to play an im- portant part in this new period. E. E. Andrews, Principal ig. 1 .W- c .Q

Bnwwl nl fducation, 'VI-F 1 ? iq LEFT TO RIGHT. Superintendent G. H Burns, Dan Knurek, Earl Lewis, Vice President, Henry Werner, Jr,, President, Bernice Schroepel, Clerk, John Names, Stanley Gorka fAbsentJ Ever since the Northwest Ordinance of l787 was enacted, Ohio has been the nation's foremost leader in education. This Northwest Ordinance of l787 set aside the l6th tract of each township section to be used for the support of schools and it declared that schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged. Through the stupendous efforts of the Boards of Education throughout the state, Ohio has built a well-organized school system that provides equal, educational opportunities for all. Rossford has not lagged behind in this development. Through the years its Board of Education has expanded the school facilities to absorb the in- creased enrollment. lt has supported various local levies to improve our schools and build new facilities. Indeed, it is such local Boards of Education as our Rossford one, that has made Ohio education what it is today. X'
