G. H. Burns, Superintendent Sesqui-Centennial Thoughts The heritage of free Americans is the greatest birthright any people on the earth ever had. Great men wrote our constitution, courageous men cleared our wilderness and spanned the con- tinent, pioneer women contributed their sacrifice and toil. And in every generation there have been Americans who loved freedom more than life it- self--men who have fought that we might be free today. We owe it to them to preserve that freedom, what- ever the cost. And we owe it to those who come after us. For the American heritage belongs not only to us but to them. Congratulations, class of l953, on your choice of the State of Ohio Sesqui-Centennial theme for this year book. The one hundred fiftieth birth- day celebration of this great state will have real meaning if by a study of its past progress we are led to an even greater period of achievement.
