We understand ourselves so little. ln adolescence, for fear of offending, we tend to repress the urge to be somebody, to be recognized, to be noticed. The fact is that what We do with this desire to be somebody determines how Wholesome We are. Seeking for confirmation of self-worth evidences an ambition which stirs in the blood of every mother's son on earth. V lt is in the dreams of the child musician, it burns in the soul of the explorer. lt is in all of us. This urge is there in ourwanting to belong, the acceptance of what we have to offer to life. What tyrannies and follies are perpetuated in the name of being somebody. A person talks loudly in public, swears boldly, voices opinions dogmatically in order to be noticed. . A man should live for being and not for seeming. The desire for attention, when identified with serving others can be Wholesome and healthful. Like happiness, real importance comes unsought and unnoticed. Appreciation of others ought to be expressed more generally and genuinely. Your importance can be measured by the degree to which you are needed by people. Can you become today a person Who ceases to belong to yourself-quits serving your ego-and begins serving others all around you? - If so, you will come alive with power, and something hallowed will shine through you every day yvith an inward glow. You are somebody. The world needs you. The World awaits you. HENRY WERNER, IR. President of the Board of Education Class of 1950, as you look to the future here are a few things that it would be well for you to keep in mind. We live in the greatest nation in the world's historyplthe richest nation the world has ever seen, whose people have more material prosperity than ever before. A nation to which all the world turns, not only for material assistance but more important, for spiritual leadership. To meet this worldwide challenge we must bolster our faith in ourselves by not only having faith in human nature, but also by a renewal of our faith in our philoso- phy of freedom. We in America have the right to do and say more ' things than any other people in the world. We must not forget that this right as well as all- other rights beget certain responsibility. We should often remind ourselves, I will remain independent. I will be an individual always. I have no security without my personal integrity. A man who loses his self-respect, a man who surrenders his basic I-L BURNS' Superintendent personal responsibilities and freedoms to another man or government, must live always in fear. The man who maintains his personal responsibility, like those who sang in the desert, lives secure -no matter what happens around him. F. O. ELLSWORTH, Principal . s' 2 -w asa is is A high school Memory Book is a record of friendship formed, big events, proms, and E other important dates. Lie eg fHEfEm,Eaf . gc? I IIEEH3 VVE LEPUVE ITIE SENIORS I6 1950 As Freshmen at Rossford High School, when we began seeding the ground that would some day develop into sturdy full grown trees of the Senior class, we found a school that was altogether different from our previous educational experiences. Being rather green in most of the activities, we didn't have too much to say about anything that went on. Our class party was a big success. Horneroom teachers helping us to plan the big event were Miss Schaaf and Mr. Troutner. We chose as our leading branches: President, Ernie Lorencep V. President, Sam Pennesep Secretary, Steve Vancena: Treasurer, Lillian Stepan. As Sophomores, we may be compared to young striplings, with roots firmly planted, knowing in which direction to grow. Participating in many organiza- tions, we began to feel quite important. One of our social whirls of the year was the skating party held at the Commodore in Perrysburg. There was a nice turnout. Homeroom sponsors were Mr. Battershell and Mr. Long. Leading us in this phase was our President, Sam Pennese, with his staff aiding him, V. President, Steve Vancena, Secretary, Leona Gibely Treasurer, Arliss Lindeman. We proudly awaited our advance to the Iunior Class. When the luniors returned in the fall of 1948, we found a school that was changing in its surroundings. The Stadium was completed and many of our football games were played there. We knew every section of the campus completely. The roots of this class began spreading throughout the school. We found various talents in different fields and clubs. Proving one of our fine talents was the Iunior Play, Everybody's Crazy . The play was very well received. Director was Mrs. G. Steiner. Another outstanding event was the I-Hop. Still another thrilling day for the lovial luniors was the arrival of our Class rings in the lanuary of '49. The Horneroom sponsors were Mr. Butt and Mr. Wolfe. The leadership of this class was provided by President, Leona Gibelp V. President, Ioyce Sitlavap Secretary, Lillian Stepany Treasurer, Arliss Lindeman. AS MIGHTY SENIORS, we have reached our goal at last, with roots that have finally found their way into a new world. As we move out into this world eagerly, yet reluctantly, we will find many new, fields awaiting us and will always feel welcome to return to the campus we can never forget. The Senior Roast was held October 22 at Pearson Park. A good time was had by all. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. Croop. Chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. I. Cham- berlain, Mr. and Mrs. H. Kohler. ln the spring of l949, we saw another cher- ished ambition nearing realization, the Field House was started, and was completed in February of '5O. Our dedication game was played February 22, with Clay, we won. Leading us through our last and most enjoyable year were President, Bill Gyorip V. President, Ierry Kernsp Secretary, Steve Vancena and Treasurer, Henry Watrol.
