Page 18 THE 45th's VICTORY OVER IGNORANCEH In the years from nineteen thirty-nine to forty-one, the 45th Division was planning the great attack to conquer knowledge. We landed on the Freshman coast 70 strong, with Major General Iohn Andryc, in command. Our advancement was slow but steady. Most of our time was spent in drilling and there was little time for recreation. After taking over the Freshman coast we advanced to the Sophomore lines. The opposition was heavy and pupils were lost. Our ranks were depleted to 49 strong. We drew back to Perrysburg to replenish our funds by giving a skating drive. Major-General Iohn Andryc, was given a promo- tion to Lieutenant-Genera1. The WAC department gave a show, entitled All's F air, to help boost the morale of the 45th Division. As Sophomores with great offensive action, we rousted out the Iuniors and took over their position. The going was tough, but the Fighting 45th held on. A campaign was held to add to the funds. and Mr. Wolfe's com- pany was in the lead with Mr. Butt's company close behind. After some grave battles were fought on the Basket Ball court by the Bulldogs, recreation was sought through dancing. New ideas were tried out by Major-General Iohn Cervenecf' who was elected to command, but he was called to active duty before the year was over and then Second-inCommand Eugene Dubelsig took his place at the head of the Division. A Peace Conference was held with the Seniors at the Secor, where they officially transferred their powers as Seniors to the 45th without opposition. In the final stage of conquest Lieutenant-Gneral Iohn Andryc, again took the lead to the final goal. With steady advancement toward gaining knowledge, the Army of 45 strong set the date for the Declaration of our Inde- pendence. This great day was May 23, 1945. All members of the army were presented with diplomas for gallant action in battle.
