DIEDICATJIUN EDITORIAL To the staff, advisors, faculty, student body, and host of others Who have made this publication possible, we are greatly indebted. We fully realize that all efforts on our part would have been futile Without their splendid'co-operation. In our opinion, the mere fact that you can look back upon a task well done is adequate compensationg nevertheless, we take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has aided in making this annual a success. That stage of our lives, in which our destinies, as well as the destiny of our mighty nation, are shaped, is closed. Many things we will forget, but we will remember how to co-operate, for this publi- cation is the very symbol of co-operation. THE EDITORS page five ,. RICHARD HOVEY 'lFlHIlE PAJRTING Oil? THE WAYS Q' S 6 6 fi? THE BOARD APPLAUDS WERNER BURREL HEINEMAN MC CASLIN KELLY PHILBIN Once again the schools of America are celebrating harvest time: Commencements. In our lives there are no endings except at new beginnings. Graduates will find the world full of Work, but rather slack on Hire. He who starts work without waiiting to be hired, will be pretty hard to stop. And he will not lose, for the law of life pays for anything that is done-if it is done first. Every generation testifies to that. We talk of choosing a vocation, but often the vocation chooses us. You may be destined for some sphere of work that is yet to swim into your ken. But waiting for it is not getting ready for it. You must do what you can, keep learning all you can, buckle into any decent thing that offers . . and keep doing something, and then at some turn of the most unpromising hour, there will come an inner click and you and your work will be together. Be courageous and remain true to the best traditions of American public education. The Board of Education continues to have an interest in your welfare and will applaud your every forward step. A SENIUR, UPON BEING REQUESTED TO WRITE A CLASS HISTORY. Why did we have to study history? History wasn't made until ours, the class of '37 started to do things. That was in September 1933, when we entered high school as freshmen. ' The story was: The grass is green, The lockers are green And still- The freshmen are lonesome. But the teachers, with their means of torture awaiting, soon made us feel at home. Many extra curricular activities were improved by the freshman participants. As wise and foolish ones , our class began to be recognized, though we were held in able check by the upper classmen. The athletic program depended greatly on sophomores for its success. After much insistence on the part of our class members, a school paper, called The Growl , was published. It was in this year that we took lessons from the seniors. A major discovery was that girls were human beings and were more interesting than text books-but we beg leave to report to Dan Cupid: there were no serious love affairs. Advancing a notch further along the way called the road to success fwith many mountainsl, we made the world notice us. The record breaking events of the year were the J-Hop , the Marlenburg Necklace directed by H. R. Troutner, and the Junior-Senior Banquet at the New Secor. In the previous year, the lessons taken from the uppers had taught us how to ad libitum without advanced study and how to cary on love affairs in the halls. The American Revolution taught us that in union there is strength, so we, profiting by example, organized the Non-Study Union. We then stood united, awaiting Senior Days. This last year is not yet completed and is still too near us to contemplate it as history. The accounts of the past are filled with records of war so let us take into account the furor wrought and the warriors fallen in our passage through school. A full report of the damages would require a C. P. A. and many sheets of paper. This will not be done for fear of prosecution by union members. This we may say: fallen warriors, 45, battered teachers, 18, fallen arches ffrom standing in cornersb, none, damages to our minds, negligible, for we learned to survive with a minimum of brain exercise and a maximum of flowery speaking, and saddest of all, 44 broken hearts. Every senior can truthfully say the last four years have been happy ones. We will soon forget what we said here but we will long remember what they, our faculty and administration, did for us. Seriously, we are at the end of one day's toil. But before the sun has fully set in the western sky another sun will be rising in the East. Let us keep striving for the better, rising to great heights so when our final sun sets, a voide may say, Well done, thou good and faithful servant. page seventeen 1. Salute! 2. Sweet Rose 3. AS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE UNDERCLASSMEN, WE PRESENT OUR SUCCESSORS THE JUNIORS who are symbolic of all underclassmen. The Juniors had a successful year, both financially and socially. He has been on our staff for eight years ar has always produced winning teams, and has never sacr ficed sportsmanship for victory. Our sincere desire is th: he will stay with our school for many more years. COACH NORMAN HENLINE Football Just as the helmsman guides his ship through the periloi tempests, so Coach Norm Henline exemplified that ro during the existance of the Maumee Valle Lea . 'll f , y gue him, victory spells the application of the highest principle of clean s ort h' ,p smans ip. It is his supreme convictic that these ideals should not be confined to the footba field alone. To our friend, coach, and advisor, we wie an exuberance of success in future years. Assistant Football Mr. Lerch, a graduate of Western State Teachers Uni- versity, has been on our coaching staf three years and has proved himself invaluable as both head track and assistant football coach. We wish to congratulate 1' nm for his work with the track team, the first to our school's history. COACH MILO PHILBIN Lightweight Basketball He has devoted his own time in shaping future Rossford stars. Though losing the championship to Point Place, the team greatly increased its score in the game of clean sportsmanship. The success of our teams in the past has been due largely to the cooperative spirit among the players. This year was no exceptiong every touchdown required eleven men to carry the ball over the goal line-not one. Because of the promising material from which to shape the team, we anticipate a successful season next year. Our team went through its league schedule without defeat. Outside the league, Rossford defeated Libbey and was defeated by Bowling Green High School. The Northwestern Ohio A Tournament was something unusual. Our team, tech- nically, Class B , first faced Vocational High and downed them with littel trouble. In the semifinals, Rossford defeated Toledo Woodward, one of the Northwestern Ohio outstanding Class A teams. The final game, Toledo Waite vs. Rossford, proved to be a hair raiser . Rossford had been trailing throughout the game, but, in the last minutes, put on a scoring spree and dropped the tying basket just as the gun went off. In the sudden death overtime, Zuchowski scored a field goal to give the victory to Rossford. This was the first time a class B school has won the class A championship of the Northwestern Ohio. At the state Tournament in Columbus, Rossford was defeated in their first start by Marietta, but, as the score indicates, represented their district well. l- page thirty one page thirty two TH BCH AMPIONS . ..
