JW 1 Praia uc ' --fra ' NW., ,. X Today's world is one of chaos. confusion. and despair. Present situations prevent many men from making a living. We are constantly hearing about rapid advancements in the scientific field, and just recently the experts have developed a bomb that could destroy many people. Statistics also show that about fifty per cent of all the people who enter doctors' offices are suf- fering from mental diseases. Communism constitutes another blockade in the lives of every individual. Therefore it is the obligation of the students of today to eliminate this chaos. A good philosophy of life and the technical knowledge which we have received from our education are the tools with which we must work. W5 Q!iL6'Um'Qa'5f,,,,,, is G Q . .Af a ML f f f r vvn n f 4 ! Orvil Fmdley Otermcrl Using their knowledge and their ability to select and hire the best teachers and make the necessary improvements, the Board of Education is always looking out for the ad- vancement of education. This gives the students an added advantage in their endless search for a good understanding of world problems. Car Russell Coleman ull Donald Lmnm' Hirschberger Ioseph w' PRINCIPAL . . Mr. Cooper, our principal, is our closest associate during our school days. Being able to talk with him when We have problems is our great- est asset. l-le also encourages us to complete our various tasks to the best of our ability by Watching our grades and keenly observing our school ac- tivities. With his guidance We face the future with confidence. SUPERINTENDENT . . . The students of Ross High School are very proud that they have a superintendent who so well co-ordinates the various classes and activities. His efforts extend to us the opportunity to reach that goal which We hope to achieve. To you, Mr. Rupp,- our heartfelt thanks for every- thing you've done. VISITING TEACHER . . . A familiar face in our school en- vironment is that of Miss Thelma Hughes, the visiting teacher. One of her many responsibilities is the keeping of attendance records for the girls. lf a boy or girl has prob- lems at home, Miss Hughes Will consult the parents and the friends of the person involved. An under- standing of people enables her to assist students in overcoming their difficulties. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL As the students Walk down the halls of Ross High School, they see the smiling face of their as- sistant principal, Mr. I-I. Randall Miller. To him is given the task of keeping attendance records and accepting many administra- tive duties of which We are un- aware. With efficiency he ful- fills his obligations. For this We are grateful to him. LEFT TO RIGHT: Mrs. Letterman, Mrs. Myers. USTODIANS . . Any student will agree that he would not trade places with the custodians, because their job is not an easy one. Their daily tasks include the cleaning of all the rooms in the building, and the main- tenance and repair of school equipment. We certainly appreciate the excellent job which they have done. OFFICE SECRETARIES . When We Walk into the prin- cipal's office We see the two sec- retaries, Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Letterman. Their constant efforts in our behalf are deeply appreci- ated by the students. Perhaps We just enter the office to buy a stamp or change a schedule, so We sometimes forget that Without their efficient management, our school system would suffer. To you, the secretaries, goes our heartiest appreciation for every- thing. LEFT TO RIGHT: l-larry Ogg, Calvin Beard, Maynard Haslinqer, Frank Shoemake TOP: Mr. Stokes, Mr. Luallen, Mr. Gruse. BOTTOM: Mrs. Schwartz, Mrs. Huffman, Miss Gam, Mr. Kuzma. TOP: Mr. Murray, Mrs. Turner. BOTTOM: Mr. Kooistra, Miss Setzler, Miss Darr, Mr. Doren. OUR Knowledge comes but wis- dom lingers. Probably no one realizes this more than do the teachers, who have guided us to this, our gradua- tion. Each student possesses a different personality. At- tempting to analyze and de- velop these personalities be- comes the obligation of every faculty member. To fulfill this task an abundant amount of understanding and helpfulness must be applied. Not only is it necessary for a teacher to be learned, but she or he must be able to pre- sent knowledge to the stu- dents so that We will apply TOP: Mr. Ihnat, Mr. Raines. FACULTY . . . it when we associate with the people in our complex world ot today. Because of the present-day situations, learning is a necessity. We live so rapidly that this fact is not easily comprehended by many students. Before we leave these halls that have been our domain for six years, we wish to extend our sincere thanks to the faculty of Boss High School, who have led us through these years which prepare us for the future. Their confidence becomes our assurance that we can obtain success if we so desire. TOP: Mr. Schiefer, Mr. Cochran. Other activities which occur during the school year for the choir are the joint concert with the band, the Invita- tional Music Festival ot Ohio, and the Easter concert. Music is important to us, since there are many times when We need some- thing to relieve built-up tension and music offers that release. Culture has become an element in society of which there is not enough. ln order that a further interest in art might be ob- tained, an Art Club became a permanent organization in our school. Mainly, the purpose of this club is to study different artists and their techniques. From these studies the student re- ceives a better understanding and appreciation of art. Assisting in these studies are the trips that the group takes to the art ex- hibits in the area. This club's activities are varied also since its members do paintings, sketchings, and Work in the field of art. 0 .Q ..ewk+.an- - mn? .44 I UN IOR CLASS PLAY 3 The Little Dog Laughed Q .fx-P w may ilu 5 '1f alll? The Golden Rule might well be the motto of the Y-Teen Club. Gifts to the sick and needy display the Christian attitude of the girls who are mem- bers of this organization. A cheerful giver is us- ually hard to find in the selfish world of which we are a part, but the girls in Y-Teens show an un- selfish attitude when they do such things as mak- ing Christmas place favors for Memorial Hospital and preparing Thanksgiving baskets for needy families. Sophomore girls are also very active in the Y-Teen organization. Their participation is seen in some of the other activities of the year, such as, the Valentine dance, the Mother-Daughter Ban- quet, and the conferences they attend. Y-TEEN . . . NATIONAL THESPIAN . . . ln many Ways this organization is the busiest one in the school. All during the school year the members of this group are participating in one-act plays, class plays, all types of class Work, and readings tor contests. Much time and effort, on the part oi the sponsor and the students, are necessary tor the success ot this organization. While the students are spending their time on the dramatics activities, they are learning how to associate and co- operate With other people. After they graduate from high school, it will be very necessary to have the ability to get along Well with others. To become eligible to join National Thespians, a student has to have ten points which he receives from his participation in the dramatic activities. For every extra ten points that a member earns he is awarded a star. HI-Y . . . The development oi the Christian character of boys is the pur- pose of the l-li-Y organization. Success in later lite depends a great deal on the character which a person develops during his high school education. Mr. Doren, who is the adyisor for the boys, ably assists them in the club's program. Une oi the most import- ant dates on the calendar for the l-li-Y boys is the Valentine Dance which is sponsored jointly by the l-li-Y and the Y-Teens. Printing the news and the important happenings concerning the high school comprises the main work of the paper. Not only are sports included, but also the various other fields which have a definite place in our school program. The Christ- mas edition this year was eight pages in length, the longest issue that has ever been published. Promptness and accuracy are two qualities of the members of the group.
