KATHY STOCKLEN A TEACHER WHO CARES The image of the teacher is changing. The stern, black-suited disciplinarian of our parents memories is gone. In its place is the modern teacher—ready to laugh with the students, to discuss rather than lecture, to listen rather than demand, to strive for concepts, not memorized facts. Especially in our small school, the program of extra¬ curricular activities depends upon teachers willing to share their time with students. The rewards for teaching are intangible. A price cannot be put on the joy felt when a student grasps a difficult concept, and smiles with new self-assurance. Shared ideas, the excitement of the play’s opening night, or the understanding counsel given a troubled student cannot be measured. In dedicating the 1971 Bengal, the stu¬ dents of Rosman High are saying thank you to a person, who in the two short years she has been here, has enriched our lives. Thank you, MRS.
