He has taught agriculture for forty years, and many former graduates still come to him for advice. However, his efforts to improve the Rosman community have not yet ended with the three o’clock beU. He has also been instrumental in planning and obtain¬ ing a well-equipped shop. He is at each ball- game, using the money made from hours at the concession stand to support the work of the F.F.A. In respect for his many years of service, we dedicate the 1970 Oriole to Mr. B. E. Keisler. The Land Judging Team, including (L-R) Wayne Wilson, Ray Baker, Mr. Keisler, Advisor; Dennis Owen, and Steve Fisher, placed fourth in the state meet in 1969. A rare moment for thought. The Tool Identification Team, including (front row) Craig Crowe, Michael Owen, and (second row) Benny i Shelton and Steve Whitmire, placed first in the i Federation, and compete in the state meet in June. Working in his shop . . . 8 The student Council, under the di¬ rection of Mrs. Vera Taylor, has an important part in making the student policies of Rosman High. This year, the officers of the Council attended a leadership conference at Hender¬ sonville High. Some of the projects spearheaded by the officers included signs for the football stadium and gym, and a sound system for the gym. Also, the Council sponsored the Christmas Dance, Hippie Day, and Slave Day to raise money for its pro¬ jects. One of the most active clubs this year is the Beta Chib. Among the service projects it has accomplished this year are the making of tray fav¬ ors for the hospital at Christmas, working on the school beautification program, and Christmas caroling throughout Rosman. When you sign up for Annual Staff, be prepared to become a “Jack- of-all Trades.” The year begins with an Annual Workshop at Furman University, designed to introduce the staff to new techniques in designing lay-outs, writing copy, and planning pictures. The 1970 Oriole was then planned and planned again as the staff strove for the best possible cov¬ erage of a year of history in words and pictures. In addition, the staff has sponsored fund-raising activities, such as sock hops, the Homecoming Dance, and the highlight of the year. The Miss Oriole Beauty Pageant. The reward for our work comes with the pleasure you have in your 1970 Ori¬ ole, now and years from now. Thinking up clever captions isn’t fun! 12 Some birds on the Oriole Staff. Capture Young Ideas Headed by a novice editor and as¬ sociate editor, the Tiger Rag Staff of 1969-70 began the year determined to produce the best school newspa¬ pers Rosman High had ever read. To readily capture student interest, it was decided to add new features along with an index for easy location of these additions. A column called ‘Tetters to the Editor” gave every stu¬ dent a voice in school affairs. “Scene Scope,” which reviewed current T.V. programs, movies, and books, cap¬ tured much attention. Many events pertaining to individuals and all less important school events were re¬ ported in ‘The Happenings.” Learn¬ ing the views of the student body on current concerns was accomplished by an opinion poll. Of course, the regu¬ lar features such as “Football, Basket¬ ball, and Cheerleader Spotlight,” Honor Rolls, Club News and Hit Pa¬ rade s, were retained. The staff found time from its busy schedule for relaxation on several occasions. Parties were enjoyed at Christmas, Easter and other times. Everyone fully enjoyed working on the Tiger Rag. Editing has its funny moments. The members attended the F.H.A. convention at Western Caro¬ lina University during October. Christmas came as a time of good will, for the girls brought gifts for the hospital at Broughton. The F.H.A. and F.F.A. then joined for a Christ¬ mas party. Fashionable February saw the debut of new models as the girls showed OS ' their own creations. Aren’t you hungry, Mr. Tinsley? Several meetings were devoted to talks by Carolyn Galloway on her work in the hospital. l| 23 Junior Class Presents CAST OF CHARACTERS Homer Hollowbone .Gary Aiken Maw Hollowbone .Donnie McCall Paw Hollowbone .Jesse Owen Sarah Jo HoUowbone . . . ADMINISTRATION. . A Difficult Position Well-Filled When asked what being principal meant to him, Mr. A. L. Warren replied: “Being a principal means a challenge, an in¬ spiration, an opportunity to help boys and girls magnify themselves and prepare for a full, significant and interesting life.” Mr. Warren has put his trust in the students this year by granting such privileges as “Hippie Day,” “Dress-Up Day”, and frequent pep rallies. The students and faculty deeply appreciate the concern Mr. Warren shows for each individual at Rosman High. Mr. Warren’s “girl Friday” is Mrs. Mary Jane Reese. Without “Jane,” Rosman High would never function as efficiently, nor would the of¬ fice be as pleasant a place to go. Mr. A. L. Steve Owen, Valedictorian Rhonda Hall, Salutatorian Class of 70 Honor Graduates Five, ten, or fifteen years from now, what will the 1970 Seniors re¬ member about their high school days? When recalling our Freshman year, surely we’ll think of the variety of teachers we had for Enghsh and math. We’U smile as we recall Sophomore biology, with its horrible odors. Who didn’t find parts of dissected crea¬ tures in his locker or lunch tray? As bold Juniors, we ventured downtown, and usually got caught. We also struggled through our first term paper. Finally, we were Seniors — feeling very sure of ourselves. Feeling also a httle sad as we realized our school days were over, and our new roles as adults ready to demand our interest. J. W.
