Whether it be in the class¬ room or on the playing field, he has made us aware that giving into defeat is a lack of courage. We have learned to have faith in ourselves from the faith and support he has given us. In recognition of his three years of deep concern for us, we dedicate the 1969 Oriole to COACH HOWELL. 9 ADMINISTRATION To most students the word principal means a wooden paddle or a desk in the hall. Yet discipline is one of the least of A.L. War¬ ren ' s responsibilities. His position also means working with teachers, the Superintendent and the Board of Education in planning and implementing student policies and improve¬ ments of facilities. Most important is his role in planning the best possible curriculum for Rosman students. Mr. A. L. Not Pictured — Dean Fisher. We started with an idea — to try to cap¬ ture the events of the past school year and preserve them in pictures and words. We soon found that it would be no easy task. There were pictures to be taken, captions to be written, copy to compose, and layouts to be checked over and over and over again. There were co-operative discussions, friendly disagreements, and heated argu¬ ments. The editors were tyrants, the typ¬ ists couldn ' t spell, the literary staff couldn ' t write, and it seemed to be staff policy that no one agree on anything, anytime. But out of this seemingly endless chaos we have somehow brought forth the 1969 ORIOLE. 45 JOURNALISM Front Row - Left to Right: Mike Biggs, Brenda Myers, Co-Editor; Vickie Morgan, Editor. Working hard, the staff gathers news covering sports, club news, special events, and general happenings. As the deadline approaches, the click-click of the typewriters punctuated by the roar of the mimeograph machine resounds through the halls. Finally the paper is printed and ready to sell. The TIGER RAG is greeted enthusiastically by those who want to learn of the latest news. 46 I LIBRARY CLUB and FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA Seated — Left to Right: Mary Helen Huggins, Joyce Lowe, Helen Lowe, Secretary; Barbara Anders, Gayle Waldrop, Beverly Whitmire, President; Grace Ward, Treasurer; Mrs. LaVerne Hogsed, Sponsor; Edith Jo McCall, Joy Whitmire, Linda Petit, Martha Dodson; not pictured, Jesse Owen, Vice-President. We look back upon a year filled with the excitement of new knowledge, the quiet moments shared with a special friend, the busy hands of club projects, the thrill of athletic competition, the first night nervousness of put¬ ting on a play, or the pride of wearing your Senior ring. Mingled with memory, however, is anticipation. Some of us look forward to the lazy days of summer vacation, to the start of high school, or to being an upperclassman. Seniors don robes and tasselled caps for their entrance into the adult world of career, marriage, or college. We, the Oriole Staff, hope that this annual will serve to remind each of you of the special moments that were 1969 at Rosman High. f-
