MUSIC ( I i Linda Moses and Berlis Owen, presidents of the high school glee clubs, confer with the director MRS. M. J, WINGET. This year the Music Department boasts of two glee clubs. From these two groups come six vocal ensem- bles. These are volunteer groups working, without credit, for the sheer joy of singing. This group of juniors and seniors expressed a desire to do extra-curricular work in music. A natriral apti- tude for singing and many hours of do mi so ' s have produced some fine results. A volimteer ensemble of sophomores and seniors who harmonize with ease and fluency.

HOWELL, as head of the business de- partment tries to give his students a well-rounded back- ground in business courses. In the typing classes speed and accuracy are stressed, along with instruction on personal typing. Office Practice class offers advanced instruction in typing, filing, and business correspondence, as well as work on the mimeograph machine, electric adding machine and electric typewriter. E a ch student is required to do a certain amount of actual office work. First yearbookkeeping is set up to introduce book- keeping and accounting to the students who might further their education in the business field, and it is also designed to train the student to keep the records of a small or medium sized business establishment. |j Students are taught how to keep family records on in- come, budgeting, and income taxes. For the student interested in becoming a secretary a course in shorthand is given. The student is required to take dictation at a rapid rate and then transcribe with reasonable accuracy. ' Mr. Howell is giving instruction on the Opening Entry in the Bookkeeping class. 12

COOPERATIVE TRAINING In the Industrial Cooperative Train- ing class, students study job-related information in school and get on-the- job training as a part-time employee in industry. This is a cooperative ef- fort by the school, business andin- dustry to provide on-the-job training for youth i n occ upational areas of their choice duripg their junior and senior years in school. Mr. G. H. Farley, a graduate of North Carolina State, is in charge of this course. Mr. Farley assists Mary Ellen Brown with her nursing project. Dillard Revis and Maurice Albany are studying auto mechanics, and Dwight Sheehan is learning to be a butcher. GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Mrs. Juanita Lavendar is the guidance counselor for Transylvania County. She visits our school once a week. Her work consists of advising students about their many problesm. She is also very influencial in securing scholarships for Rosman seniors. Here she is seen counseling a group of Junior girls.
