SCIENCE Man is on the threshold of almost unbelievable scientific achievements. Sputniks, rockets and jets have created a new interest in Science. In this space age it is necessary for all to learn the fundamental concepts of space in order to be able to con- trol living things. Mrs. Lillian Cothran, head of the Science Department, tries to instill in the students a desire to learn and under stand about the scientific world of the future. W.ith the help of Mrs. Cothran, yoimg biologists dis- Besides teaching Math, Miss Byrd teaches a course in cover that the search for life in a tiny, primitive cell. I ' ' M ; , ' Im Because Mathematics has such an important role in today ' s world, every effort is being made at Rosman to arrange the courses offered in this department to meet, as nearly as possible the learning needs of the students. Mathematics is at the center of the exciting devel- opments in science and the teachers in this department, MRS. COMNENA REID and MISS MARGARET BYRD strive to create and maintain, in each student, an in- terest in mathematics, in order that he will be pre- pared to take his place in the world of the future. Miss Margaret Byrd, a new addition to our school this year, teaches General Mathematics and Business Arith- metic. Margaret Winchester demonstrates a theorem in Plane Geometry to Bramley Fisher and Steve Rropelnicki,
