Now I'II iust walk around to the front door and wait for the gang. You know, I'm really going to miss being in school-I know that I said that I would be glad, but when the end is so near, it almost scares me. Some of the gang have been crying. I guess I should go straight home and get my beauty sleep even though I'd rather not, so Goodnight everybody- see you tomorrow. Roll and tumble-Roll and tumble. If I get my French book, maybe that will put me to sleep. That's a good idea, Miss Owen. . Cut off that light, I have to work tomorrow. Je vous aime ----- le, la, les. I wonder where I am! Look at the tall buildings! Oh, Silly, you're dreaming. I can't be. Listen, someone's calling me. I wonder who it is. I'Il see. Come in-come in, Child. Oh no, I must go home. Come iust a moment, and I shall give you something to eat. Well, I am hungry. What's in the big pot? That, Dearie, is magic brew that will enable you to see in the future. Do you believe in that stuff? CertainIy. What period of time wou'd you like to know about? Let's see- I'd like to know what the gang will be doing in l962. lMagic wordsj Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burns and brew bubbles, Come high or low, Thyself and office show. This looks like a bus station, everyone seems to be travel- ing so I may as well ioin the crowd. Where is everybody going? Oh! here's the ticket agent. The slow thing, won't he ever turn around? It's Howard McCall! When did he start punching tickets? After buying my ticket, I went to gate 6, track 2, and boarded the bus. Whom do you suppose I sat beside-none other than Gerene Galloway who was wearing a very strik- ing costume. She told me she was operating an exclusive dress shop in Jacksonville, Florida, and she always goes to New York each spring to buy her goods. When we arrived in New York, I said good-bye to Gerene and started exploring the city. Hearing a newsboy shout a familiar name, I bought a paper. I was astonished at seeing the headlines- Mildred O'ShieId spends vacation in Paris with friends. But reading more, I saw that she was a famous model of evening clothes and was visiting in Paris to see the new style creations. ' My hotel reservation was at the Waldorf Astoria, so imagine my surprise when I saw Peggy Lee seated at the reception desk. To add to my surprise, she told me that Joe Page Fourteen Staton and his orchestra were playing their fourth week on the Starlight Roof. About that time, Joe walked in and we talked about old times. I learned that Carlyle Whitmire owned and operated a big night club and that the place was overflowing on the nights that Carlyle sang. Before I left, in walked lnola Kilpatrick, famous for her hair styles. lnola stated that we should take a good look at her hair, because it was as famous as Hedda Hopper's hats. Next, I took a trip to Niagra Falls, where I saw Bonnie and Boyce celebrating their second honeymoon. By this time, I was so tired riding the bus that I went by plane to Chicago. At the air port I saw Betty Jean Mitchell, who is fashion editor of the Chicago Tribune, interviewing Wilma Ledford, fashion designer. Since I wanted to take a few dancing lessons, Wilma and Betty told me that Lewis Holden was definitely the best instructor. That didn't surprise me, because he was always dancing at school. I stopped at an unsmearable lipstick factory, and as I walked in the door, the first person I saw was Vera McCall, pounding a typewriter. When I left the factory, someone had smashed the back of my new car, so Vera told me to go to Carl Masters' Garage, where I could get it fixed like new. He took some tools and beat the smashed parts until I thought the car was ruined, but his attempts were successful. While driving through Nevada one night, I had a fiat tire, and when I knocked on the door of a beautiful house, I was thoroughly amazed when the door was opened by LaVerne Robinson Elliott. While Carl Phillips, the famous radio announcer who was visiting the Elliotts, fixed my flat tire, LaVerne and I did some reminiscing. She to'd me that Willow Mae McCall was teaching business education at Ros- man High and that Fate Webs'er had graduated from West Point and was now an instructor there. California, here I came! Finally, I arrived in Hollywood, and on the corner of Hollywood and Vine I noticed a huge dress shop where ladies kept going in and out. There sat Mildred Chapman in her private office, talking to her partner, Avarie Powell, about their business. Having read in a paper about the Texas multi-millionaire, William Rogers, I decided to drive dawn and see if it could be the William I knew. When I got there, it proved to be the some one, but he had gone to Europe on a vacation. By this time, my finances were extremely low, so I re- turned to Brevard, where I met the former Opal McCall, who invited me to her home for the Garden Club that afternoon. She was hurrying home to check on the twins. At Rosman, I looked out the window, and, yes, it was Bud Case, Agriculture teacher at Rosman High, and Joe McCall, assistant farm agent, talking to a group of high school students. With all these voices, I begin to wake. fYawn-turn over-yawn-lazily arisej. Get up, it's time to go to school. Whew! what a dream! when I have part of another week to be a senior at Rosman High School. Prophet: ALICE OWEN Elie ft '-TT? 'U 5 f7l i 1 A W v p' ,- Class Will We, the Seniors of R.H.S., in the year 1952, being of fairly sound mind and body, do hereby bequeath the follow- ing talents to our unworthy successors, the Juniors: To Lester Winchester, Bud Case wills one-third of his handsomeness, hoping thereby that Lester will succeed in winning Martha A. Thomas. To Harold Woodard goes William Rogers' ability to type. Harold will need to be extra good to be in the race with William. LaVerne Elliott leaves her ability to play basketball to Louise Hutchinson and Ruby Fisher. May Louise always get as many points, and may Ruby guard as well cs LaVerne. Willow Mae McCall bequeaths her ability to type to Paul Cash and wills her position as editor-in-ctief of the annual to Helen Hubbard. We hope that those two will be as good as she. Alice Owen and Betty Jean Mitchell leave to Bobbie Conner and Jo Anne Holland their place in the school store and their part in the senior play. These two can never be such good comediennes and money hogs as Betty Jean and Alice. There is only one iunior to whom Fate Webster could safely leave his ingenuity to fool the teachers-Grady Ashe. May Grady always tool them as well as his predecessor. To Joel Hubbard, Carlyle Whitmire wills his loudness. Joel will have to yell all the time to make as much noise as Carlyle. Since Margaret Anne Passmore and Hattie Lou Parker never giggle, we feel sure that they shou'd be the recipients of this ability of Peggy Lee's. Part of lnola Kilpatrick's height goes to Joan Moses. Maybe she can play basketball better next year if she gets more height. To the Junior Romeos, Mack Burton and Buddy Owen, Lewis Holden leaves his ability to get all the women. He leaves with them this slogan, Love 'em and leave 'em. ln the back of Miss Wiggins' French class, there is a seat occupied by Mildred Chapman, and we are certain that O Mildred Whitmire and Louise Snipes should get this seat. Girls, don't tight over it, iust lo'e your French book and you may sit together. Minnie Sue Brown is the 'ucky recipient of Avarie Powell's quiet ways and sweet personality. Bonnie Lee Galloway leaves her place as traffic monitor to Thelma Petit. Thelma's quiet ways will help her win a place on the Student Council next year. Boyce Whitmire leaves his agriculture grades to Royce Baker. Boyce, you must leave all your ways of cheating to Royce!! Howard McCall leaves his ability to drive to Shelby Jean Smith. Also, he leaves this advice, lDon't run over my heart with your feet. Carl Masters leaves his ability to p'ay basketball to Char- les Whitmire. May Charles be the star of next years' basketball team for Rosman Hi! Wilma Ledford leaves her methods ot skipping typing class to Genelle McCall. Genelle will never be as good as Wilma in getting out of her lessons. Joe Staton leaves his place on the basketball squad to Freddie Hollar. We hope that Freddie will always get as many points in a game as Joe. To Mary Lou Chapman, Mildred O'Shield leaves her position as secretary to Mr. Tilson. This means you will miss every study hall, as most of us like to do. To Eunice and Joyce McCall, Gerene Galloway leaves her English and French grades. May the two have the best English and French grades possible. To Kenneth Tolley, Opal McCall wills her ability to type and Vera McCall wills her economics grades. With this com- bination Kenneth will continue on the A Honor Roll. To Leo Petit, Carl Phillips and Joe McCall leave their 4,000 word themes on Court. Maybe Leo will be lucky enough not to get caught and have to use them. Signed: BETTY JEAN MITCHELL Page Fiftcrn ,X N if is ,X v S X Q it X ,K I JUNIORS 1. GENELLE McCALL 2. JOYCE McCALL 3. WILLOW MAE MCCALL FATE WEBSTER ve T,-v -,-TV - . .,,.. -' t . A aaa .Malory S It was in the last days of August in 1949 that we boarded the R.H.S. Ship of Knowledge. In the ninth grade there were forty-one of us. Dicie Red- mon and Mabel Mason left us and went to work. We found high school was somewhat different to' our elementary days, so it took a little while' for us to settle down to learn anything. Poor teach- ersl they found it hard to cram anything in our r heads, but they finally got us started on the right road. As our crew completed the ninth grade, we learned that Virginia Ledford and Joel Hubbard would repeat the course with a new group, while we boarded the ship again for our tenth year. Again, several of our shipmates chose to leave the ship. Barbara McCoy did not return from her summer vacation. James Holcombe ioined the army. Mildred Hubbard and Carol Owen went to work. Archie Bradshaw and Eric Hall moved away to other schools. Bill Angle chose Brevard School. Our tenth year was a happy one-fashion show, the exchange of classes for two weeks be- tween the girls in home economics and the boys in agriculture, Carlyle Whitmire pouring water in his candy to test it, and our two parties. Thus our iourney for that year ended. We, the Juniors, still wished to attain our goal and the only way to accomplish this was to board our faithful ship again. Martha Jean Orr became Mrs. Douglas Delfew and wentgto lMissouri. Don- ald Lee Bucknei' and Fred Dodson accepted em- ployment. Frances McCall married Mr. Clinton Mc- Call. Barbara Galloway started working: Avonda Lee McCall left and is now working in Rock Hill, S. C. We were very proud to have Franklin Nicholson of Washington, D. 'C.,' ioin us. Then there was our wonderful Junior and Senior Ban- quet, which I shall never forget. Our three months' leave at this point was well-earned. - ln l95l, we, as Seniors, started on the last part of our iourney on the R.H.S. Ship of Knowledge. All returned except A. M. McCall, who is now in Uncle Sam's Air Corps. We were sorry to have Dorene Galloway leave us and move to Georgia, and Franklin Nicholson returned to Washington, D. C., however, we were very fortunate in having Fate Webster of Cullowhee, N. C., ioin our crew and finish the voyage with us. This was the most wonderful and successful year of our iourney. Rings, calling cards, graduation invitations, Senior Play, Macbeth, Junior and Senior Banquet, mid- term and final examinations, Baccalaureate Ser- mon, and then-the wonderful moment for which we had waited--Graduation, tears, tears, tears. May we always be as successful as we were in our high school days.
