Education, started its voyage across I, the sea of Rosman High. In the eighth grade there were 68 pas- sengers, the co-skippers being Mrs. LaVerne Hogsed and Miss Edna Wiggins, and the captain was Principal E. F. Tilson. After passing the first stormy year of the voyage, we sailed into the Calms of the ninth grade. Six of our passengers left us during this lap of our voyage. On the next lap, we almost ship-wrecked on the Rocks of Biology, but we survived with only five losses, thanks to the wise counsel of our officers. The third lap of our journey was a very interesting one. There was the Junior play, Lena Rivers, and the Junior-Senior Banquet with the Chinese motif. Five members embarked on the happy Isle of Matri- mony. They were LaVada Kilpatrick, Geneva Hudson, Jeanette Raines, Mary Sue Conner and Jo Pangle. A new member from the H. S. Oceana, joined us, only to leave us the next year. Her name was Ann Vakos. Our last and most adventurous year of the voyage brought us much happiness. There was the thrill of being seniors, getting our rings, annual work, Senior play, No Place Like Home, Junior-Senior Banquet, Baccalaureate Sermon, and at last on May 24, 1951, we anchored our fair ship in the Port of Graduation with 33 members in our crew. C 64155 l'0,9AeCy Step right up, dear classmates of '51, and let Madam Tell-All read your future in the tea leaves. I have been blessed with the wonderful gift of seeing into the future, and though I am only an amateur, I am learning fast. Who will be first to find out what he will be doing ten years hence in 1961? Ah! My first customer this evening is Roy Byers. What is that I see in my tea leaves? Why, of course, it is Ray as a missionary in darkest Africa. He seems to be very happy among the savages, in fact, he seems to be one of them. Here comes Amalia Winchester. I see a huge department store in New York, and Amalia is head floorwalker. She is very successful in her career. She is not married and is still a favorite among all the men. George White has finally been named King George I of Ooglamitchi, an island in the South Pacific, where he took his bride, the former Beatrice McCall, on their honeymoon ond decided to stay. I see two of my former classmates as teachers of Rosman High School. They are Dorris Reid, who teaches business, and Jency McCall, who teaches mathematics. Marlene Whitmire is teaching at Rosman Elementary. Mariorie McCall has got herself a Broome, and is keeping house in Greenville S. C. and has four little maps. My tea leaves reveal that Helen Jo Manley and Brisco McCall are happily married and live in a house adioining the home of the former Ruth Jamerson, and her husband, Willie Aiken. Charles Ray Lusk is basketball coach at Rosman High, and is very proud of his team which hasn't lost a game in three years. This year Muscles led his team to a State Championship. Another image is forming. It looks like a wedding! Yes, it is! It seems that Leona Carter is finally getting married to Lester Stamey. Good luck, Leona. There is a lovely bungalow in my magic tea leaves, and there is Mary Sue Whitmire hanging out the wash, with two darling little boys playing near. What a happy scene. Jo Powell is still making Ernest a wonderful wife. They are living in California near Ima Lee McColl, who is private secretary to Sam Goldwyn in Hollywood. The next scene is an opossum farm. Guy Owen and Elmo Crowe own this farm, and they are making quite a fortune from the proiect. They got the idea for the farm during an economics class in R.H.S. lt seems that Lola Dobson has become a lady detective and has iust ferreted out a Communist spy. Her assistant and constant companion is Pauline Lowe. They are famous as tracers of Lost Persons. Mary Lou Moore is married to Billy and lives at the corner of 1st and 10th streets in Rosman. flt really has grown in ten years.1 Well! Alton Pangle is really going places! I see him drilling a group of marines. He is now a captain. Charles Pangle and Carlyle McCall have an airfield out in the outskirts of Rosman. They are great stunt pilots, but then they always did know lots of tricks. Ernest Hollar and R. C. Galloway have iust opened their new night club, The Silver Star, across the street from R.H.S. Willie Fisher and Dorothy Thomas are the star singers. Dorothy has become famous as a blues crooner. Willie is still a heartbreaker, and has a different guy every night. Bill Case and his wife, the former Freda .lean Boley, live in the suburbs of Rosman. Bill is owner of Case's Department stores, which are scattered all over the U.S. Freda is a great club worker, and is usually head of all the benefit programs. I see Leo Aiken as World's Lightweight Champion in boxing. Howard Jones is his Manager. Donalee Cassell has replaced Bob Hope in the movies, and he is a comedian such as the world has never seen heretofore. Berdell Jones, lwho is now Mrs. Dealous Phillipsj lives in her lovely home in Wolf Mountain. She is noted for her wonderful cooking and genuine hospitality. As for myself, Joretta Moore, I am hostess for Pan American Airlines, and telling fortunes to all the Air Force. The evening has been a pleasant one, dear friends, and I have told your fortunes as I see them in my magic tea leaves. CLASS PROPHET JORETTA MOORE I I ,- , v- ws, .gfqfr We, the Class of CZ... WW '51, being glad that our days here are numbered and realizing the need of retaining our notable talents and abilities, but knowing that the Juniors are sadly lacking in such outstanding qualities have agreed upon these individual bequests. I, Ray Byars, do hereby will to Alice Owen my musical talent with my wish that she become a great songster. I, Freda Jean Boley, will my talent of leading cheers to Betty Jean Mitchell. I feel quite sure she will be able to carry out the iob well. I, Bill Case, leave my athletic ability to Carl Masters. May he be a real help to the team next year. We, Jo Powell and Ima Lee McCall, will to Wilma Ledford our skill in passing the invisible note. With the practice she already has we feel sure she'll get by. I, Leona Carter, will to Vera McCall my iob as office girl. May your iob be light and your trips short. I, Donalee Cassell, leave to Lewis Holden my ability to sing and to hold my audience in great suspense. I, Lola Dodson, do hereby bequeath my place as Lunch Room Waitress to Peggy Lee. May this be her motto Let nothing your appetite dismay. I, Willie Fisher, bequeath to LaVerne Robinson my ability to cook. I have an idea she'll need it in the near future. We, R. C. Galloway and Ernest Hollar, leave to Buddy Case our special talent of finding excuses to keep us from school. I, Alton Pangle, do hereby will my unusual ability of saying much in a few words to Elmo Matthews. By cutting ten words a minute from his speech I feel sure he will be able to fulfill the task. We, Ruth Jamerson and Helen Jo Manley, will to lnola Kilpatrick our talent of being absent when a test is scheduled in Chemistry. A tip, Inola-watch your step. I, Charles Ray Lusk, leave to Carlyle Whitmire my ability to make um laugh. May he always be able to keep the students in a merry mood. We, George White and Elmo Crowe, leave to A. M. McCall our shyness and blushing in the presence of girls. Use these qualities in moderation. We, Leo Aiken and Howard Jones, do hereby will to Boyce Whitmire our great name of corn producers. We hope it will bring him much fame. We, Jency McCall and Dorris Reid, leave to Dorene Galloway our skill of keeping correctly the student store. May you have more success than we have had. I, Marlene Whitmire, leave to Bonnie Lee Galloway my shiny blue apron. I hope she will find it useful in many ways. I, Pauline Lowe, will to Mildred O'Shields my perfect record of one year with no absences. Tardies are better for the record. We, Carlyle McCall and Charles Pangle, bequeath to Joe Staton our knowledge of the laboratory. We feel sure he'll make a go of it if he memorizes the chemistry book. I, Mary Lou Pressley, leave to William Rogers my talent as a typist, but there's one drawback- you'll probably have to use two hands. I, Guy Owen, leave my title of class pest to Carl Phillips. May it bring him as much pleasure as it has me but iust half the trouble. I, Amalia Winchester, leave to Avarie Powell one ounce of giggles. This will be all she'll need to put the class in an uproar. We, Mary Sue Whitmire and Mariorie Broome, leave to Willow Mae McCall the address in the adioining state the address. where we found our new names. Just remember, you mustn't lose I, Dorothy Thomas, leave to Gerene Galloway my position as president of student coun- cil. Always try to give the kids a fair deal. I, Beatrice McCall, lt's in excellent shape, I, Joretta Moore, be the greatest poetess I, Gerald Moore, him in future years. I, Berdell Phillips, won't need them next do hereby will to Joe McCall my locker used in the twelfth grade. so please keep it that way. bequeath to Mildred Chapman my ability to write poetry. May she Rosman High has known. will to Howard McCall my art talent. May it be of much value to leave to Opal McCall one pair of overall pants since I probably year anyway. This was published and declared before us by the testators to be their last will and testament and at whose request and in whose presence we hereby have subscribed our names as advisors and witnesses. Dorothy Thomas Donalee Cassell CLASS LAWYERS lfU'l'l0l' age In every high school year, which incidentally is composed of 180 days containing six hours each, there is, of course, something which happens to everyone that no one can forget. Some of these things we now file below, that you may share the remembrance with us. At first-well, it really began then, was the un- forgettable time when Willie, Joretta, Nadine, Geneva, Patricia and Inola were an their way to Brevard, and luckily lor unluckilyj lnala thumbed Mr. Tilson. Any- way, the trip was made shorter, they returned to school. Then came the outrageous time when two of our girls became tomboys namely, Helen Jo and Ruth. Remember when they walked the home ec tables? More recently came the Senior boys' stag party, which was so rudely interrupted by some of the more interested senior girls. Don't feel bad, boys, they were iust checking up. And then when we were iust freshmen seniors, Guy, Elmo, and Charles Ray hid all those English books. Remember it, kids? Then, in November of '49, after one month of daily drilling, came the night for our Junior play rehearsal. Good ole Lena Rivers . Could anyone forget? Wonder if Miss Wiggins recalls the surprise birthday party given her by the Juniors of '49? Honk, Hank! Toot, Toot! Could she forget? Can someone remember the time when all our married seniors were single- When Jo dated Joe Owen When Mary Sue dated Hugh Gillespie When Marjorie dated Charles Harris When Mary lou dated Bill Case When Ernest dated Ima Lee McCall When Berdell dated Harold Miller When Lavada dated J. C. Anders? Gone but not forgotten are the parties at Frozen lake. They were heaps of fun, but punishment for cutting school wasn't so funny. In the field of sports, mostly football, there was one special hero. However, he never came by for his honors when the football took a side curve straight through the Detention Hall window. Now iust who was the kicker? To Grady, Muck, and Joel we give the credit of a completely new stock of food in the Iunchroom. Do you recollect, boys? Seems as if jeep days have come and gone again. Perhaps Vera, Opal, Peggy, Alice and Dorene could give us a better line up. Could Spook Nicholson and his runaway ieep have any connections? Better late than never came the steak supper at Miss Wiggins' house for Carlyle, Ima Lee, Charles, and Willow Mae. A lot of steak can be eaten at 10:00 P. M., but there was still some left. Then through the halls on that ioyful clay came the music from the English class. The entertainers: Odell Powell and his harp and Frantz and his voice . What were you hoping to charm, boys-the teacher? It seems that publicity iust comes to certain people. The one we have in mind now is Carlyle Whitmire and his experience with an officer of the law. Believe us, Carlyle, we aren't really iealous of your publicity which pertained to a boy being searched because of his foolishness. And does anyone remember when Mrs. Warren's green light turned red? Maybe we should have the lights changed pink and blue. At least, everyone wouldn't be seeing red all the time. Free, yet paid for, was the period given to the girls who decided to bring back the silver for Mrs. Bryson. Inola, Vera, Alice, Wilma, Barbara G., Mildred 0. and Martha Jean, was it worth it? Actions speak louder than words, and it still applies, even in the Marine Air Corps. If it weren't that, then how did the officer find out CarIyle's and lewis' ages? Date: Night of Junior play, 1950. Incident I: Inola practicing driving on Ray Fisher's CCI'- Incident II: Within one foot of above mentioned ac- cident, Carl Master's tire went flat. Causes: Carelessness, slightly over-loaded car, per- sons 10. Help: 5pare - Mr. Dwyer. Only once a year, so we mustn't forget Miss Moore's birthday party from 9th grade girls. Yes, Mr. Tilson re- membered too, and gave her a special invitation - to chapel. Then as now, nothing ever stopped the 9th grade of '51, Remember the party at the Pink Beds and the big rock in the road ? Plenty of food for everyone, including the enormous appetites of the senior boys of '50. What were you planning to do boys, feed Asheville too? With heavy hearts and low spirits the 'I2th grade boys left to the 10th grade boys the '50 basketball tournament championship. Could it have been these nicknames of the 10th grade that brought about the victory? Please take note of what follows: Hoot OwI -Grady Bad Boy Baker -Royce Blue Beard -Keneth MuscIes -Charles Hi3hpockets -Eugene .. Blood Burton -Mack Cherry -Harold Counterfeit Cash-Paul Hick HolIar -Freddie Lover Boy -Joel Cactus KiIler -Dolus u ll 9 I it NapoIeon -Leo 6, ,Q 1 Slinging Slim -Denton Herbie, Jr. -Buddy Bad Eye -Sherrill Together we stand, the motto of the I2th grade, especially when ' u I 5 , 17. a certain incident occurs and Helen 4 Q , X 'X 4 Jo is caught forging names. But everyone knows that's an illegal practice. Variety is the spice of life, and these spicy moments will be long remembered by all of us. JF dl 1 MS Sd J' V ..
