YEARS How do you explain three years of Joy, Sorrow, Togetherness and Friendship? The seniors of the Class of 76 have explained all of these things during the three years they attended Ros- lindale High. As sophomores we struggled to survive in the lonely world as we entered Roslindale High. We would not dare call Rossie our school like the older kids did. We hid from the seniors who looked down on us as babies. Geometry, Typing, Shorthand and Biology were all new subjects to us. It was difficult, but we survived. As our Sophomore year went on, we made friends, we got to know our teachers. We learned that there wasn't really a swimming pool on the fourth floor. We were all good friends when the summer rolled around. When junior year started many were the hardships of losing friends resulting from busing, ra- cial tensions, and dying spirits. We had our fun, as well as our share of problems, but we managed. Blacks and Whites attended school tegether, went to football games together, and at- tended many of the school activities together. We made friends and we got along. Our football team tried but yet they weren't the best. The Cheerleaders informed the kids that with a little luck 75-76 could be the year of the tiger. During December we had a semi-formal. The kids had a great time and danced till their feet were sore. The day finally came to order Our High School rings. Many decisions had to be made. In April the S.A.T. 's arrived we got up and trudged down to Rossie High for three hours of college boards. In May the seniors of 75 left Rossie High. Many of them were our friends. When Iune arrived we realized that within two months we would be the Seniors of Roslindale High. We said our good-byes and said see you in September. September of 75 brought Phase II into effect. Once again many of our friends left to attend other schools. More students were bused to Rossie. Many of the kids were scared of their new school. Again came the problems of new subjects such as: Trig, Economics, and Psychology. The football team played their games, and to many people's surprise, Rossie beat South Bos- ton for the first time in twenty-six years. They were also victorious over many other teams. The Cheerleaders and the Spectators cheering, You may beat the others and you might beat the rest but you can't beat Rossie cause we're the best! 75-76 was definitely the year of the ti- ger. Thanksgiving day came and Rossie and Hyde Park played their traditional game. Cheer- leaders and spectators met at the school to await the bus that would send them on their way to Kelly Field. Finally the bus arrived and we thought we were on our way, but to our surprise th bus made it to the back of the school and broke down. Thanks to Miss Cohen and her quick thinlj ing, she called the police and soon after the Paddy wagon arrived with flashing light and siren blaring the cheerleaders arrived at the field yelling, Here we go Rossie . With damp weather but not dampening spirits, the Rossie Tigers tried but without success for a victory over Hyde Park. In May came our class day. We got our yearbooks and friends autographed them. We shared ou: thoughts and memories and just like that it was over. On Class day the Class of 76 walked through the front door of Roslindale High for the last time as a class. Our prom arrived, we danced, had a good time, and remembered all the fun we had at Rossie High in Our three years there. Graduation Day came and so did the cries of joy and Sadness. The people we've grown to know and love must depart. All good-byes were said and suddenly we were all choked up. We tried to say Good-Bye once again but nothing came out. We left it at that. As we left Iohn B. Hynes Auditorium you could hear . . . I'll call, I'll write you, Keep in touch, and I will miss you. The problems, the fun, the decisions, the troubles, the football games and we're No. 1, are all part of the class of 76 . We the c1ass of 76 of Roslindale High School are proud to say, We did it Our Way. Cathy Knowles Debbie Iemison Bette Albert Trisha Casey 5 S

I I I Donald Burgess Headmaster The future, my young friends, to which you looked forward a few years ago has arrived and with it a new beginning. A more mysterious future lies ahead. Looking back, you must now realize that years indeed do fly. Your experience at Roslindale High is invaluable to you as you face the next challenge. Let the mistakes and gains, the losses and the profits, the frowns and the smiles you felt here serve to prepare you better for the dif- ficult years you face. No one of us can look forward to halcyon days filled with rest and relaxation, fun and laughter. I'm confident you'll succeed, but I'm also certain that to succeed you'll have to be industrious, honest, and reliable. Your integrity will be challenged at times, but you'll meet the chal- lengeg your strength and determination will be challenged, but you'll meet that challenge also. Always look upg feel optimistic and remember the hard- er the work, the greater the reward. A wise English poet once wrote: A man's reach must exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for? I exhort you to be the best worker in any task you undertake. Be the best office manager in the world: be the best salesman in the world, be the best Secretary, the best teacher, the best builder, the best technician in the world. You can, but, if you believe you can't try anyway. You can't lose.
