Seniors, Seniors, Seniors! We've made it here at last Through spelling bees with shaky knees Through a+b : c+z? Through football games where no one goes But still our team was on their toes Through Trigonometry tests with much dread At the end of which we all were dead Through forward rolls and cans of beer Through report card woes and X-mas cheer Throughasdfglkj And English classes that were really gay Remember running through the halls And Gertrude loves Pete on lavatory stalls Through, But Mr. Heidt, I don't understand! '6Sit down, shut up and raise you hand. Through daily hot lunches that weren't so hot Oh, why must these wonderful days stop? By Valerie Katsinis 4 fl' in W gf 7 So nigh is grandeur to our dust So near is God to man When Duty whispers low, Thou must, The youth replies, I can. EMERSON We are the sum total of our yesterdays, and for the past twelve years a large portion of your time has been spent in the pursuit of knowledge and excellence. It is our hope, your teachers and mine, that you are ready for these testing times. The future belongs to you. The quickness with which you assume responsibilities and the quality of your solutions to lifels problems will determine your future and the kind of world in which you and yours will live and have your being. With good health and fortune, may each of you answer Duty,s call, Thou mustf' by replying, I can. 6 LOUKING BACK While the United States of America was busy ending its involvement in Viet Nam, coping with Watergate, and infiating its money, a group of people, determined to make their three years of high school the happiest, as well as the most worthwhile years of their lives, ventured into R. H. S. for the first time. So begins the history of one of the most unique groups of individuals ever to be assembled in America's history: Roslindale High's Class of '75 . Sophomore year began as a force to be reckoned with. Students found themselves lost in a maze called Roslin- dale Sophomores could always be spotted by those puzzled looks on their faces. A sophomore was reluc- tant to look a senior cross-eyed, let alone ask him for directions! New subjects, such as geometry, and book- keeping, proved the most difficult to we puzzled soph- omores. Eventually, we gained confidence and began to join clubs and become involved in school affairs, the spark of school spirit had been ignited. Sophomores stood together with the Juniors and elu- sive Seniors at hockey games, soccer games, and track meets to cheer on our winning teams, and at football games to support our hard-working team members. At Rossie, there is one thing that you leam and you leam it fast, It's not the fact that you win or lose, what matters is that you had the spirit and courage to try. Junior year for the Class of '75 began as a most happy one. Momentum in school spirit grew stronger every day. The year progressed and it was time for school rings to be ordered. Designs were chosen, and school grew more intense as ring purchases were tangible proof that the magic senior year was fast approaching. Spring came, and we juniors on the threshold of Seniorhood, with our heads swelling daily, were thrust back out into the cold reality of life. The term forced busing' became a term all too familiar to every student in the City of Boston. At first, the reaction of all students was to ignore it. It'll go away. But it didn't. The next step was to fight to stop it. A campaign was organized to write letters to the Com- missioner of Education, pleading with him to stop think- ing of students, especially seniors, as a matter of student numbers, addresses and geo-codes. Letters were written by students all over the city. They proved to be of no avail. As Junior year drew to a close, all good-byes were said with the faint hope in mind that someday we'd all be together. U For the first time, class officers were not elected, in- stead, an interim committee, headed by a chairman was elected. Senior activities commenced at once as the Class of '75 was determined to overcome all obstacles. September 1974 proved to be a month to go down in history at R. H. S. Besides coping with forced busing, the class found itself with a new headmaster in Mr. Donald Burgess, as Miss Moran, our former Headmaster was promoted to the job of Area Superintendent for the Roslindale area. There were new faces at Rossie beside new students, and Mr. Burgess, city and state policemen soon became commonplace at Rossie as did one other group of people, FRESHMEN! The first few weeks of school proved to be full of uncertainty, but the spirit of the Class of '75 came through again. All students came together to try to make the best ofa difficult situation. On Halloween, Seniors dressed appropriately and showed a willingness to go on and forget past setbacks because the seniors of Rossie High were determined to have a memorable senior year! The Fourth Annual Thanksgiving Day Game was held and the Class of '75', was present in body ands spirit to cheer their team on. We didnit win, but we had the courage to try! A first for Rossie, a 50,5 Record Hop was held by the Seniors. Participating students dressed for the occasion. Ponytails, D.A.'s, bobby socks and bubblegum not only made the students feel young and gay but served as entertainment to the faculty reminding them of the days when . . . The Semi-formal, a dance attended by the most spirit- ed Roslindale Tigers, was a night to remember' with Second Society. The school year rolled on. Seniors awaited college acceptances. School spirit draws to a peak, and the students are geared to only two things: Graduating and proving to the world that The Roslindale High School Tigers can overcome any obstacles thrown in their paths.
