' 4.1-7 4 . ,ps Eleven years makes a long time in anyone's life. but it has been a relatively short period for me: for these. out of forty in Boston. are the years I spent at Boston's best high school. Roslindale. Believe me. I've taught in five of them and know much about others: give me Rossie. its staff of fine teachers. and its fine boys and girls. Make allowances for an occasional unusual student. but the majority of you have been a pleasure to boss So this year will be my last one as a teacher. and regrets I will have. as a Bostonian. to leave not only the city and its suburbs. and our close friends of years standing: but my wife and l will truly miss the many young men and women it's been my liortune to know. We hear frotn all sides about the new age of freedom for the young. new attitudes toward orderly process of law and government. toward sex. in education. and a rising demand for more active participation in events taking place. Remember these words of Cg. though. when l say that you're not brighter than we oldsters were as kids. though we recognize your greater courage and self-confidence in the tasks yoti tackle. The city's and the nation's problems won't be solved by teen-agers but your questioning of old methods. customs. and practices and your desire for improvements will lead you to more intelligent and responsible conduct as mature adults. And nothing pleases any teacher or head master more than knowing that young people have been stimulated to responsible adulthood by contact with good teachers. Ave atque vale: hail and farewell.
