70 742 01644 of 1956... Life is ai leaf of paper 'white IVhere0n each one of us may write His word or two, and then comes nighffi As James Russell Lowell penned these lines, the hrevity of life's span was uppermost in his mind. Two score or five score of years are indeed intinitcsimally brief when compared with the length of eternity. Since time on earth is so short and eternity so long. you should he concerned not with the length of years that lie ahead of you hut rather with the quality of manhood and womanhood which will eventually characterize your daily existence. In varying degrees you should he cognizant of the fact that in these formative years of your high school education there have hcen presented to you hasic prin- ciples of intelligent and rightful conduct that if carried to fruition. will guide you and aid you to take your places in society as understanding. purposeful and courageous citizens in your local. state, and national responsibilities. Through the diversified subjects to which you have he-en exposed, you should have learned to be tolerant, lawful, conscientious. and morally right-minded in all actions that will affect your lives as they relate to your God and to your neighhor. Be prudent in your undertakings, courageous in dangers, patient in affliction. and humble in prosperity. lvith these injunctions, I will say to you, the Members of the Class of 1956 of Roslindale High School: Farewell, and may God hless each of you and may His Heavenly C'ountz-nance reflect happiness and contentment as He tits into the Great Book of l,ifc-.ethc Book of Final Judgment,-the page of each of you with your few words upon it. K 70 My efaddmajat. . . VVhen we entered this school three years ago, we were boys and girlsg now we are men and women. This transition from adolescence to adulthood has brought its accompanying responsibility-to act upon the most important decision of our lives by continuing our education, entering the armed services. or going into the business world. Our parents, our ehurclnnen. and our teachers have guided us in making the choice of the right path of life. and for their advice we are eternally gratefulg but we, alone. chose the path and must follow it to its end. Soon we shall be out in a world of strife and competition, a world which can he made better or worse by our actions. The dangers that will threaten us are so numerous and so menacing that it may be impossible to overcome them all. Yet we must try to surmount them because it is our world and we have a moral obligation to God and society to do our best to make it a better world. YVith God's help, may our paths lead to success. hap- piness, and peace. This book is a record of the happy memories of the past. As it is a conclusion to the praisworthy deeds of our youth, may it also be a prelude to great things in store for us in the future. May the future be as kind to us as was the past, which is herein recorded. JOHN Dias
