Hand Ma fer is' Wlesszzg Time marches on. Teachers see their pupils graduating each year into a world which presents them with new tasks, a world which has changed perceptibly in the short space of time since the Class of 19-1-6 left the school. i A year ago nobody could predict with any degree of accuracy what the political and economic situation in the world would be today, and this has been equally true in the past. lloreover, the global dis- turbance of the last few years has been the cause of more sudden and more radical changes than we experience in normal times. With this in mind, your teachers have known that your ability to react correctly to varying situations, your power to cope with problems which you have never met before, your determination to be- come successful citizens of your country, and your conviction that the world in which you are living is not your immediate neighborhood or your city or your country but the entire civilization of the globe are of more importance to you than much of the factual knowledge which they have taught you from day to day. So the daily lessons under different teachers have all been given with a knowledge that, if you master them, you will be developing those qualities of character, foresight, ambition, leadership, and initiative which you will need in solving your problems in life. At graduation time your paths diverge, and, as you make your way along them, I hope that the school has helped you to develop the qualities which are necessary for your successful progress. Your diploma not only testifies to your achievement, but it carries the implication that you are capable of making further progress along lines for which you are suited. In extending to you of the Class of 1947 my congratulations, I wish to add that it has been an honor and a pleasure to have had a part in helping you during these years when you have been preparing to take your places in the citizenry of the nation.
