Aximzosii B. XVARRFN Our Senior year has been the happiest of our school lives: for, on ac- count of our organization and our many activities, we have become more conscious of ourselves as a class and of the warm friendships that in the course of time have sprung up among us. This happy condition, how- ever, we in our inxxperieuce could hardly have brought about of our own accord. Vw'e owe it in large part to a lady whose calm judgment has guided us in our serious afllairs and whose genial spirit has been with us in all our pleasures. NVe shall always keep a warm spot in our memories for- Our generous and sympathetic adviser, MISS MAIQY f. DUSH page .-.rx Ability to perceive and to appreciate beauty in form and color is one of the choicest fruits of education. Inspiration in this fisld has come to us abundantly during the past three years from that very bright spot in our school, the Art Room. This happy influence has reached not only the pupils who have attended classes there but the school at large through the exhibition of pictures in our corridors and especially through the artistic appearance of our Tattler , which has attracted attention in other schools of the city for its excellence in this respect. We, the Class of IQSQ, take great pleasure in expressing our gratitude and appreciation to - Our cheerful and stimulating Art Teacher. MISS GDACE M. AZNIVE 1 1 2' ' , If- . P D LJ 'Z LI.. A happy day it is: and long have we looked forward to it: and then. too. we are fast approaching graduation day. l know that. as within our grateful hearts the full realization dawns that on graduation day the ties which have bound us so closely to one another and to our school will be broken, the lump of melancholy swells in our throats. Vfe have worked together. we have played together. and we have struggled together for those things which we hold high as our ideal - loyalty to our school and oursslves. honesty in all our acts and thoughts. clean living and clean sportsk manship, and above all. that love which is sorely needed in these trying times. love of Americanism. Vyle are closing behind us. securely and for all time. the door to our care- free youth. Each and every one of us is going forth to greater things. But let us remember that. just as the fledgling leaving the nest has its mother to guide it, so too, do we. leaving behind us the comfort and shelter of early youth to make our way in a seemingly inhospitable world, still have with us that great heritage of our Roslindale High School to guide us on a true course to great manhood and womanhood. Vwlords cannot fully express to our Headmaster. Mr. kVarren, and the other members of the faculty the gratitude which wells in our hearts for their kind and gracious consideration of ourselves and our many problems. But l know that we can thank them with one thing - success: a success measured not by standards of wealth. but by the standards of righteous Americanism. Now, my fellow classmates, in conclusion. I wish to thank you for the trust that you have placed in me and to say that l have tried in every way to fulfill to the best of my ability and for your approval the obligations of mv office. l thank the members of th: faculty. the members of my various com- mittees. my fellow ofiicers. and each and every member of the graduating class for their full and whole hearted cooperation in making this a banner year. Vv'hen we set sail a few years ago. the serious tlecisit n conlronted us 7 into what port shall our little vessel sail? Witli the encouragement and careful guidance of our captain, the Head Nlaster, who has so willingly cooperated with his crew, we have selected the route to future success. With the personal interest of tlig faculty, we have steered our ship a little closer into the harbor of achievement. Nlany of us it brings closer to the various lines of employment: others to schools of business: and still others to the coveted circle of college life. Now endowed with ability and wisdom, we are confident that future obstacles will not hinder us in our search for success, The journey has not been a smooth and eas 'y.' sailing one. There have been stormy skies to mar our progress in the form of stressing problems, but together we have faced and overcome them. They have drawn us close, and have enlightened and prepared the way for what the future holds. Although the sea has been rough at times, the tuinult ol the waves has yielded to the burning ambitions and hopes of our crew, giving our ship the power to pro- gress at an always forward pace. But in later years, as we talk together in pleasant reminiscence, the moments that will be uppermost in our hearts arg the ones in which we played together. sharing cheerful thoughts and hopes of the future. These hopes we shall remember and try to fulfill when we enter the more responsible and grave life that we have been preparing for and which is now to come. ln the future, when we have reached the shore of opportunity and the land of success, we shall attribute the credit to the inspiration and influence given us at the Roslindale High School. But then we shall not be able to revel in the carefree high school days which we are about to leave behind, and only when we meet again in future gatherings or reunions will the spirit of school days once again prevail. As the shore is in view and our anchor about to be lowered, our visions are blurred by tears of regret at parting. The close friendships we have mad: are about to end. One wish that the Class of IQBQ would like to have Nlr. Warren and the faculty aware of, is our appreciation of the guidance, co- operation, and personal interest that they have bestowed upon us. This has been due to the never failing efforts of Miss Stavrinos and to the cooperation of the Domestic Science and Art Departments. As our Red Cross Fund, made up through voluntary contributions from the pupils of the school, was larger than in previous years, we were able to increase our activities. At Christmas and in April we sent artistic menu covers and cookies, both of our own making, to the homes for disabled veterans. At Christf mas we turned our Library into toyland with toys that were later distributed to unfortunate invalid children. Of paramount importance to an assembly in any school is appropriate music. Here in Roslindale one does not have to look far for good music, as the school orchestra has ac- complished the purpose for which it was founded three years ago. This year improvements in the orchestra have been many: important among these has been the addition of many new instruments which contribute much to the splendid playing of such an organization.
