Class History This year, despite the conflicts of the world, we the Seniors of '61, are leaving our Alma Mater determined to earn a place on the stage of life. All through our four years of high school, we have participated both in scholastic and extra-curricular activities extensively. We haven't always been self-confident, assured students though, for, in the fall of '57, there came to Roseville High School's doors 104 scared students. But as we roamed the halls looking for our rooms, we grew a little more confident that the upperclassmen and teachers would not eat us. After a couple of weeks, you wouldn't have believed we were the same students, for with Mrs. Donahoe, Mrs. Patterson, Mr. Taylor, and Mr. Carnes to help us along, we soon grew out of our temporary shyness. We elected for our Freshman officers: President, Miles Payton; Vice-President, Sharon Auer; Treasurer, David Yeager; and Secretary, Karen Duff. We chose as our class colors, black and white. Our cheerleader which we chose was Nancy Brooks, and our homecoming attendant was Sharon Auer, who had as her escort. Bill Kuhn. Our class was so well represented in all of the activities, that it would be unfair to mention only a few and would take too long to name them. We also had a long list of Freshmen on the Honor Roll each six weeks. One of the highlights of this year, was our party held at the children's home in Avondale. There were very few of us who did not attend this affair. It seemed that none of us really wanted to leave at the end of the year, for we knew some of us would not be there the next year, but we were all happy at the prospect of being Sophomores. So ended our first great adventure in the high school world. We entered our Sophomore year with about 70 members of our class returning, for, as we had thought, many of our dearest and closest friends had not returned. But, despite this we were ready to face up to the great responsibility of being Sophomores, for we had the privilege of having our homeroom in the library with all the class together. Even though they separated us later, we kept the same wonderful advisers; Mrs. Matthews, Mr. Curl, and Mrs. Donahoe for the first semester, but in our second semester, Mr. Cox was assigned Mrs. Donahoe's classes, as she took over super- vision of our cafeterias. This year our officers consisted of: Kay Kinnan, President; Kay Pletcher, Vice-President; and Nancy Daniel, Treasurer. We chose Odette Folden for our cheerleader and homecoming attendant. Her escort was Bill Kuhn. The most exciting day for most of us, was when we were measured for our class rings. If you happened to be in Roseville High School that day, you could tell very easily which students were the Sophomores, all you had to do was look for the shining eyes and smiling faces. But the year was quickly over, and vacation time was upon us again. It seemed we could hardly wait to get back and be Juniors! During the summer, we again lost some of our classmates and we returned with about 65 members. Mr. Dantonio, Mr. DeVore, and Mr. Crady advised us through this year, and helped us solve many of our problems. We elected David Yeager, President; Sharon Auer, Vice-President; Odette Folden, Secretary; and Christy Jaynes, Treasurer. Our home- coming attendant this year was Joan Dalrymple. She was escorted by Charles Williamson and Jon Fauley drove for her. We had six of our class chosen for the Lola Clark Chapter of the National Honor Society this year. They were: Odette Folden, Rose Polen, Charles Williamson, Jerry Sutherland, Donna Reed, Bob Dozer, and Barbara Stigler. About a month after school had started, there were a group of students who kept flashing rings around. These were the full-fledged Juniors, for they had just received their class rings. We had the great honor this year of having a classmate of ours, Nancy Daniel, who went to national regional com- petition in the national cherry pie baking contest. She gained the titles of; National Regional Cherry Pie Baking Cham- pion, Ohio State Cherry Pie Baking Champion, Sectional Cherry Pie Baking Champion, Muskingum County Cherry Pie Baking Champion, and Roseville High School Cherry Pie Baking Champion. Our class was very busy that first semester, selling magazines and putting on our Junior Variety Show. The second semester we presented our Junior Class Play, Beanes for Breakfast. During this year, we also sold our football and basketball pencils. One of our most enjoyable activities was getting ready for the Junior-Senior Prom. Everyone in our class partic- ipated in this project, for we wanted it to be the best that was ever put on at Roseville. At the Senior and Junior as- semblies that year, you could have seen many sentimental tears shed among the Juniors, for many of them realized that, just as the Seniors of '60 were getting ready to leave then, we would be doing the same in only one year. We started off this, our last year of school, with 63 members having the able assistance of Mrs. Mace and Mr. Dye. The class officers we elected are: Miles Payton, President; Odette Folden, Vice-President; Christy Jaynes, Treasurer; and Connie Hoodlet, Secretary. Our classmate, Virginia Corbin, was chosen as queen this year, and her Senior attend- ant was Kay Kinnan. Their escorts and drivers were; Bill Kuhn, Delbert Heim, Jon Fauley, and Lynn Crane. We spon- sored the homecoming dance after the game. Our big project for making money towards our class trip this year, was selling Christmas cards and candy. All of us participated in this project and now we are looking forward to our taking the trip and putting on our class play. These will conclude our four years at Roseville. Now, we are approaching the great day, when we, the class of '61, will leave the corridors of Roseville, never to return as students again. We have had many good times and Roseville High School has given us many happy memories which we shall cherish always. Years from now, we shall look back upon these years, as the happiest of our life.
