FRNIE SASAKI ROBFRT SOUSA JEANNE FMPEY SENIVR CLASS i-IISTV R' Our four years are finally over, and each and every senior has been known to say, Yes, these were the happiest years of my life. These years have gone by so fast that, as we look back, we remember and think Iongingly. As freshmen we went through the bewilderment of the first few days of getting acquainted with new people and adapting ourselves to the unfamiliar routine of high school life. The sophomores played hosts to us at the Fresh- man Reception on October 15, and, with great initiative, we made the Frosh- Tumblers dance a huge success. We went all out in the war effort by sponsoring the crutch and cane campaign for disabled soldiers. Then before we knew it we were moving up the ranks to another year. As sophomores we started the year by honoring the new frosh at the Fresh- man Reception. We started out with a leap and a bound to keep up with Mr. Arp on his annual hikes. At the end of this year we decorated the platform for the graduation and were even more anxious to become juniors. At last, as upperclassmen, we out-did ourselves in school activities. We worked as a class to sell magazine subscriptions to raise money to make our prom, Stairway to the Stars, one of the best in the history of RJ UHS. Then we were given the opportunity to write our term papers on peacetime sub- jects, a change from the emphasis on war which had prevailed for four years. Our sponsors, Mrs. Spitler and Mr. Vicente, helped us greatly to prove that we had the ability to be capable and competent Juniors. Our last year finally arrived, and we were honored at the annual Junior Prom. Following in close sequence were the Boxing Scamper, Girls' League Show, Senior Ditch Day, Senior Banquet, Baccalaureate Sunday, and now Commencement. With this we bid a fond and sad farewell to RJUHS. SENIORS WITHOUT PICTURES KENNETH BARNES, BETTE LEE CAGLEY, HARRY DANIELS. SAMMY DEMAS PHILIP KISTER, KEITH NOAKES, DONALD SCOLES, ROBERT STRAND. I 'c GIRLS' LEAGUE The Girls' League is an im- portant factor at Roseville Joint Union High School. The purpose of this organization is to promote a spirit of helpful- ness, courtesy and loyalty in the school and in the commu- nity. The Hi-Jinks, an annual af- fair held by the girls for the entertainment of their mothers and friends, took place this year on November 22. The Girls' League Show was held May 8 and 9. Fantasy in Color was the theme, and it proved to be one of the best shows ever given. Among the numbers that will be well re- membered were: St. Louis Blues, Black Magic, Night and Day, and Green Eyes. The Girls' League sent dele- gates to the Girls' Convention at Richardson Springs on March 22. Six girls represented Roseville. In the past the Girls' League has donated part of its pro- ceeds to some charity fund. This year, many of our assem- blies have been supported by the Girls' League. The advis- ors are Mrs. Dorothy Adams and Mrs. Betty Cottrell. BOYS' LEAGUE For the last seven years the boys have worked hard as a group to make the Boys' Box- ing Scamper, one of the main highlights of the year, a huge success. At this event, which was held in March, a bronze statue is awarded to the boy showing the best sportsman- ship during the evening. Martin Hall won the trophy this year. ln December the boys of RJUHS were hosts at the YMCA Older Boys' confer- ence in Davis, at which Lay- land Friberg actedaspresident. Most of the boys' activities are carried on by the Orange R organization which is com- posed of all boys who have earned an R by participating in major sports. This year the girls' sport season began with the basketball and volleyball teams playing interclass games. Due to bad weather and an interrupted schedule only a few games were played. The most enjoyed sports are tennis and archery. The girls worked hard to become good players in tennis. Every gym period a group of girls could be found on the high school court having fun, and learning the fine points of the game. 'XSK..'l'3 Ll. There was no special class in archery but in the spring the girls really turned out for it during gym classes. The instructors were always telling the students to keep their arms out of the way of the bowstring, but many girls at the end of the gym period would be giving first aid to painful burns on their arms. We mustn't forget softball as it is also a favorite with the gym classes. There were some very good players this year. There was always some girl receiving a sprained finger, or bending a nail back, but all this didn't stop the enthusiasm for the great old sport of softball. i,.i-lf. lfirxl Row, IP!! tn right: lidna Hall, Rose Marie Matranga, .lny Dell Rnhisnn, Edna Olson, Fae Rich, Darlene Parker, Irene Palmer, Frances Odgers, Phyllis Smith. This year the Girls' League has been trying to get a Girls' Athletic Asso- ciation put into effect at RJUHS. All that the girls have now is a Girls' League. It handles Hi-Jinks, the League Show, and Girls' sports. But if the new plan works out all right, we hope to have the G.A.A. for the sports department only, and limited to the girls who really go out for the games and teams. A system of awards will be worked out for those who participate in after-school sports, the highest award being a letter-sweater. '..NNl? WE Ulm X.
