3 ♦ ♦ f it, ,. iHonxods 0X61 DANNY KEEL Only memories are left from a moment of happiness, and of close friends which will never be seen again. We, the annual staff, sincerely hope that this 1970 SPOTLIGHT will keep with you all your future years, the cherished memories of your friends and of the happy moments you have had here at Rosepine during this 1970 school year. We have worked hard to prepare this book and now with great pride we present to you the 1970 SPOTLIGHT. Editor Editor L. TO R. : Bernice Higginbotham, Denice Higginbotham, Paula Marshall, Nora Hunt, Bonnie Evans, Denise Bailey, Sarah Box, Randal Goins, Danny Keel, Ricky Deggs. In this school there are many people who have helped educate the students. Of these people, we truly believe that you are one of the most outstanding. You are honest and honesty will always be rewarding. You are willing to stand up for what’s right and most of all you seem to be interested in the education of each individual student. Because of these reasons and many more, you have become one of the most important and best-loved parts of our lives here at Rosepine School. That is why we have proudly dedicated this 1970 yearbook to you ... MR. LEROY GARST Dedication Vernon Parish School Board SEATED, 1 - r: Mrs. J. C. Trotti, Mr. Benard McKee, Mr. C. H. Parker, Mr. Walter Nolen, Mr. Murphy O'banion, Mr. Curtis Bradshaw, Mr. J. M. Sanders, Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Mr. R. D. Shaeffer, Mr. T. L. Berry, Mr. J. A. Williams, Mr. Roland Mitcham. STANDING, 1 - r; Mr. John Burns, Bookkeeper; Mr. A. C. Dowden, Supt. of Child Welfare; Mr. George Thomas, Supervisor; Mr. William West, ESEA Direc- tor; Dr. Lynn Hancock, Dentist; Mr. Russell Jackson, Asst. Supt.; Mrs. Dorthy Haymon, Secretary; Mrs. Betty Sewell, Dietitian; Miss Jeanette Moses, Reading Consultant; Mrs. Sandra Hilton, Secretary; Mrs. Cheryl Carter, Nurse. From the Superintendent’s Office MR. RUSSELL JACKSON MR. CURTIS BRADSHAW Assistant Superintendent Superintendent May the pictorial scenes in this attractive publication help you remember with enjoyment your school days, the pleasant associations with classmates and teachers, and inspire you to continue worthwhile activities. My wish is that your future will be so planned and lived that the important experiences of your life will bring you both honor and happiness. I congratulate the staff and sponsors for publishing this informative yearbook which re- flects so many school accomplishments. Sincerely, 637tOU Curtis Bradshaw, Superintendent Vernon Parish Schools Principal’s Message For more than two decades I have been very closely associated with Rosepine School in various capacities - as classroom teacher, assistant principal, coach, and as administrator. This work I certainly enjoyed, and I greatly appreciate the splendid cooperation I have received from school officials, parents, friends of the school, faculty, and employees; but greatest of all has been the warm fellowship and close relationships I have had with the many students of this school, feeling that perhaps I have played a small part in the life of each. During this tenure 1 have seen this school’s enrollment grow from less than three hundred to more than seven hundred students for the 1969-70 school year. We anticipate growth at an even greater rate in the coming years. You, of the Rosepine School Community, are to be highly com- mended for efforts put forth in meeting this growth, and keeping pace with modern trends in education. This publication shows evidence of a great deal of dedication and tiresome labor. To the staff and sponsors of this book, I certainly thank you for a wonderful job well done. I. C. CALHOUN Elementary Principal’s Message One of the most important aims of concerned adult Americans is to provide the best possible education for their young people. As your elementary principal, I would like to encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity you have. Study hard, learn as much as you can, and continue your education as far as possible, not only for yourselves but for your parents and your country as well. Sincerely, Leroy Garst LEROY GARST MR.
