PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE MR. CALHOUN I feel very strongly that the purpose of the school is to educate; that, in order to educate, the pupil must be present both in body and spirit; that there are other ends to education than college preparation - as admirable, desirable, and needful as that preparation may be; that I have a very real and important responsibility for every child from the time he enters school un- til he achieves high school graduation; that while the school of today is doing great good, there is greater good they can do; that high school diplomas should mean more than a passport to college; that teachers and administrators are the servants, not the masters of the students with whom they work, and that there is much to be done in matters of our own training profes- sionalism, service, and attitude if we are to serve the children. I am hopeful of involving the efforts and assistance of every individual and every group in our school community in a concerted move to appropriate educational opportunities for every child in this school. Congratulations to the sponsor, editor, and staff of the yearbook for a job well done. You are to be commended for your efforts and also for your fine spirit of co-operation in making this book possible.

However, I am sure it is a very rewarding labor and everyone associated with the in- teresting publication is to be highly commended. You have every reason to be proud of, not only the accom- plishments of your school organization, but the friendly per- sonalities found in your membership as reflected in this year- book. The warmhearted feeling and fine professional spirit dem- onstrated by teachers and students in your school is an inspira- tion to all of us. 1 realize, too, that this remarkable achievement cannot be accomplished without co- operation and leadership ability. It is with great satisfaction that I am able to speak to you as my friends, and with deep sincerity, wish you continued success in your every endeavor. Sincerely, Curtis Bradshaw Superintendent Vernon Parish Schools
