As I walked in she (the Queen of the Clarinet) began to play an old familiar song that reminded me of my high school days at Rosenwald. When the song ended I looked up and she was looking at me smiling, then came slowly to my table; when she spoke I recognized her as Miss Sadie Horton who was in my graduating class from high school. What are you doing for yourself now, Ora Lee? she asked. I ' m Dr. Milton Stamps ' secretary. He ' s the head Doctor at the Johns Hopkins Hospital at Baltimore, Maryland and we ' re here on our vacation. Dr. Stamps then came over and we began a conversation about the days we spent together in High School and began wondering about our classmates. I, Ora Lee then mentioned that Doris Barnes was in town and the owner of the Madame Barnes Beauty Shoppe and Geneva McKinley, the most Famous Styler, was working there. We all went to the Beauty Shoppe and through con- versing we learned that: Jessie Bester is a dietitian at the Warfield Clinic in Princeton, New Jersey. Bessie Mae Tye is the head nurse at the largest hospital in Rhode Island and is expecting to own half of the hospital through partnership. Miss Doretha Caddell is an actress and plays the leading role in Our Destination. Newt McCravy is the world ' s greatest trumpet player and is given the title: Master of the Trumpet. He is now in Beverly Hills, Calif., playing at his own night club. J I y I V V I ✓ Mary Bell Herrell is the Pin up Girl all over the world and is married to Lt. James Gregory who commands the 3rd army. 1 was reading the newspaper and glanced at a column. It was concerning lawyer Willis Mitchell who had defended a case. The paper stated that Lawyer Mitchell among the people was the best lawyer in the states. Dorothy Copeland is a stenographer at the Fritz and Sons firm in Chicago, Illinois. But at the present she is in Harlem, New York attending business for the firm. Patricia Amos is an entertainer at the Paradise Night Club in Detroit, Michigan. Elizabeth Jones is a nurse for Dr. Stamps in Maryland. Dorothy Davis is a major in Home Economics and is manager of the Home Economics Department at Woolsworth Department Store in Dayton, Ohio. Her- man Woolfork is the owner of the Woolfork ' s Jewelry Store at Cincinnati, Ohio. Billy McNeal is a mortician and is married to Jeanetta Reed who is his helper at the McNeal Funeral Home in New York and Clarence Gibbs is the Head of a military school in New Orleans. Goodbye Till Then ( Class Song) Goodbye we hate to leave Rosenwald, Goodbye to teachers, pupils and all; Goodbye we hope to meet you again, Goodbye till then — And when all of our hardships begin, We ' ll think and then we ' ll say to our friends; We are trying to strive to the end so wait Till Then — Chorus Although there were hardships now and then, And lessons were hard to get. I know all the teachers did their best to show us a way to a higher success. Goodbye we hate to leave Rosenwald — I know that we will miss you this fall. One day we hope to meet you again, — Goodbye Till then — Written by Dorothy Davis. Class Poems WE THE SENIORS, THINK OF THESE THINGS We the Seniors of forty-five We like to work and like to strive We ' ve worked from day to day In order that our work would pay. Perhaps, we were a little tired at the close of day, A little less anxious for you to rule our ways; A little less ready to take your scolds and blames A little less eager to gain our fames. But now that we ' re nearing the journey ' s end We the seniors give out with everlasting blends To thank you all for what you have been. By Geneva McKinley. GOODBYE ROSENWALD HIGH Goodbye dear Rosenwald high. We are leaving you with many a sigh. We are preparing to travel the road of success. Using what you have taught us best We are on this road to never fail To the sea of luxury we will sail; We shall make good of all our opportunities To free ourselves of bad communities. We are leaving here as seniors of 45. Trying to do our best. For we will continue on our strive Up the long hard road till we reach success. We are leaving thee as a friend at heart With the thought once that we ' ll never part. But upon your teaching our whole life depend. We will think of you dear Rosenwald until the end. Now we have spent three years in the halls of Rosenwald and have en- joyed it immensely. We have taken part and have excelled in many of dear Old Rosenwald extracurricular activities, such as basketball, football, Girl Reserve and dramatics. We had for Co-queen of the Red Devil Squad none other than the lovely Miss Myrtle Copeland with Co-captain Ray Moore (who is a Junior) presenting her. The lovely Miss Ruth Frazier of the progressive Junior Class was the Sweetest Sweetie of the Rosenwald Girl Reserve Club. We also had the pleasure of having Mrs. Susie Jackson who is the winner of the most popular Home Room Mother contest. Mrs. Jackson is the mother of Reatha Jackson of the Junior Class. We had one casualty of the year. Daniel Clark met with an accident on the football team. Members of the Junior Class that are in the armed forces are: Pvt. James Butler, stationed in Washington and Edward Barnes who is stationed in Alabama. The Juniors led all other classes in their contributions to the Red Cross. We had three juniors with roles in the play Tiger House which was given by the Dramatic Club. They were Earl Simpson, Mary Brooks and Ray Moore. The mighty Junior Class will contiue to extend their gratitude and hospitality to Dear Old Rosenwald till victory is accomplished. 7. SUITH V. PRESIDENT R. ROGERS SECRETARY J. GIS3S TREASURER ORES W. Griffith The ninth grade started what has proven to be a very prosperous year, with its members participating in activities as dramatics, chorus, basketball, football, Girl Reserves and- two librarians. Who ' s Who of Rosenwald which has been an annual altercation for quite a few years was made up predominately of freshman. Members of the freshmen class were chosen as follows: Most popular girl, friendless girl, prettiest girl, cutest girl, most handsome boy, smartest boy, most versatile girl, tallest girl and others. Of course no more could be expected when the sweetheart of Rosenwald (Miss Alberta Robinson) was a freshman. The freshman class was highly represented at the Girl Reserve Conference which was held at Middlesboro, Ky., March 15 and 16. During that session Miss Betty Sue Mills was elected as president of the conference for next year. The freshmen, along with many other classes, was 100% in the Red Cross Drive. We plan to climax our year with a Freshman Kid party in which the freshmen will trip the light fantastic toe and enjoy a repast of niceties and goodies. L. Sandiford J. Turner A. CMlders E. B. McCormick, is composed of students who have fine voices for singing. Although most of the members are new this year, much progress has been made. Only three boys remained who were members last year. The bass sec- tion was hard hit when JjmiesJButler, a former member, was called to the army. Edward jWnes, a new member, was also called to service. The chorus made its first appearance of the year in chapel. The students enjoyed the selections that were rendered and several encores were given. On Thursday night, April 19, the chorus was invited to appear on a program at Loyall High School. On April 27, the chorus appeared on a recital which was given by The Women ' s Improvement Club, a new organization in the city. The members are looking forward with anticipation for a successful appear- ance on the commencement program. There have been favorable comments from audiences, who were not dis- appointed when they heard their rich, melodious voices blend in such perfect harmony. The Dramatic Club The Dramatic Club, under the supervision of Miss Alfreta Jackson and Mrs. Fannie Shobe, has made much progress during the year. On Friday, April 20, the club presented the play: Tiger House. There was not enough room to accommodate the immense crowd and many people were turned away. However, the play was repeated the following Saturday night so that they could see it. H A m Rosenwald Sports By James M. Gregory FOOTBALL The Red Devils of 1944- ' 45 started the gridiron season under Coach J. N. Kendall (an all American) with a large, but inexperienced team. This was the first time in Rosenwald ' s history to have a team of this type. The Devils strug- gled along with patience until they were successful in a few games. The schedule and scores are as follows: Lynch 18 Middlesboro 6 Middlesboro Lynch 18 Benham 33 Benham 53 Lynch 6 Harlan Harlan 18 Harlan 6 Harlan Harlan Harlan Harlan 6 The greatest occasion of the year was the crowning of the queen. Capt. W. Mitchell crowned the queen (Geneva McKinley), the Homecoming night, and presented the awards to the queen, and co-queen. Co-Captain Ray Moore pre- sented the gifts to the queen attendants. This was one of the most beautiful sights of the year. BASKETBALL The Basketball team of Rosenwald started the season with a successful year by defeating Middlesboro 39 to 13, but was finally defeated by Benham. The Red Devils were chosen to attend the District Tournament. Newt McCravy was the high point player of the season. Position Willie Tyson F Isadore Knox R R. Moore C N.
