. VALLACE , A Spring of 1972 Model Democratic Convention On April 17, 1972, the eighth grade classes of Mr. Baise held a model Democratic Convention inthe auditorium. It looked very much like an actual convention. The party platform was read, ammended by floor discussion, and then approved by voice vote. Next came the nominating speeches, each one followed by noisy demonstration in sup- port ofthe candidate. Balloting began during the fifth bell. Governor Wallace took an early lead, but at the end of balloting no candidate had sufficient majority. As sixth bell closed, the Muskie camp conceded in the interests of party unity, and the nomination went to Senator Mc- Govern. Brian Mangum .... ...........
