BQYS CROSS COU TEAM HNISHES size The Boys Varsity cross country team ended the season w record of four wins and two losses. Coached by Jose Marq finished in 2nd place in the tough Mission Valley League col team was consistently ranked highly in both the San Gabrl CIF polls, and featured some outstanding individual runners Mascorro led the Panthers by setting three course recon season, while also finishing lst in the league finals. Veteran also broke the Rosemead course record for seniors. Others c the winning cause included Ramon Perez, Alberto Reano and Ist year runner Jesus Cipres. These runners, in an outs against El Monte, set a new team course record of 8l ' breaking the previous record set in I977. One of the most came in the league finals at Bonelli Park where the team fi place, enabling them to advance into CIF preliminary com showing more than proved that this year's boys cross coul one of the best that Rosemead High School had ever prod The Boys Frosh-Soph cross country team boasted one in recent years with a record of five wins and one loss to capture 2nd place in league competition. The team over El Monte, being led by Freshmen .lose Carrillo Sophomore Gerardo Perez. Featuring some talented individuals the team was very competitive. Almost all of the games were to be decided by not more than one or two touchdowns. One of the teams best games occurred against Mountain View when the team won 6 to 0 in an exciting game. Despite a Viking touchdown that was called back the team held on to win. The toughest game of the year occurred against El Monte where trailing I2 to 8 the game ended with Rosemead on El Monte's I0 yard line. Some of the outstanding individuals were Herman Huezo qCaptainJ. who made a number of big plays and Gil .liminez QCaptainj who showed good leadership and athletic ability. Others doing well were Luis Alonzo CCaptainQ, Luis Mendoza, Dennis Estrada, Luis Hernandez. Coached by Joanna Gustaveson. s not known for having a really outstanding runner, but. good runners. The Panther girls were able to win the dual mship with their big win for the 7th time in eight years. The g meet of the season came against top ranked Mountain I tough race, the score was tied. causing the tie breaking t into effect. The team with the fastest 6th place finisher e meet. Rosemead. behind Dyanna Soto, won the meet to of the biggest upsets in memory. Running in the league am placed five runners out of the top ten finishers. Medal lded Juniors Maria Gutierrez, Teresa Flores, Sophomores iuerrero. Alina Rico. and Freshman Zulma Rico. All of these med to the All Mission Valley League teams.
