DON KEY BASKETBALL GAME ACU LTY DEFEATS U DERCLASSME What has six legs, brays Qthat is, makes the sound hee- haw j, and can shoot a basketball? lt's a student or faculty member and his donkey participating in the annual Donkey Basketball Game! This contest, combining horsemanship for donkey-manship j and basketball skill, pitted the Rosemead High School faculty against the students in a basketball game like no other. The rules were similar to those of any other basketball game - save for a few minor changes: before moving, passing, or shooting, one was required to be seated upon his or her donkey. Needless to say, this little detail made things a bit more difficult for the players. And the difficulty was compounded since the animal the players had to maneu- ver around the basketball court was a donkey, the reputedly stubbornest animal in the world. The brave, and foolish, souls who participated in this crazy contest were, for the faculty. Miss Jonsson, Mr. Taite, Coach Hall, Mr. Smith, Mr. Nichols. Coach Adame, Ms. Lawry, Danny DelCastillo, and Mr. Danny Martinez: and, for the students, Alfonso Arteaga, Trishell Young, Lorena DeAnda, Melinda Benavidez, Chris Brooks. Khanh Bui, Edmon Soliman, Scott Bland, and Sally Hines. Amidst all the humor and hilarity of the game, each side still wanted to win. This fact was seen in the close halftime score of 22 to 20 in favor of the faculty. The serious and competitive nature of the game ultimately gave in to humor as student and faculty players alike hilariously struggled to move their don- keys and, at times, fell off them. At the end, the faculty prevailed over the students by a score of 66 to 5 I. The game was a sight to see, one that would surely make James A. Naismith turn in his grave.
