VARSITY BASEBALL STARTS OFF AS Rosemead's Varsity Baseball team. coached for its sec- ond year by Mr. Tad Douglas, started the season off with a strong start. At the time of this writing, the team's record was six wins and only one loss. The most exciting game, so far. was against Mountain View. Rosemead finally won by a score of 3-2 in the eighth inning. Other wins were recorded over Duarte, La Puente and twice over Pioneer. Some of the outstanding players included Julian Salazar, pitcher-shortstop: Jaime Varela, pitcher- second base: George Angulo, shortstop: Dan Tate at third base: and Chris Brooks as catcher. Many of the players from last year's playoff team QRosemead's First appearance in the playoffs in six yearsj returned to help make this team a league contender for the champoin- ships. Coach Tad Douglas commented. With a little luck mixed in with our strong pitching and defense I see no reason why we can't bring a championship to RHS. .IV BASEBALL WINS FI E OUT OF FIRST SIX I think we have the potential of being towards the top of the league standings and maybe even taking the championship. commented J,V. player Mario Ramos. With such enthusi- asm the J.V. Baseball started this season with a record of 5 wins and I loss. The loss to Arroyo was their first of the season, but that didn't seem to dampen their spirits. The Panthers went on to defeat the Mountain View by a score of 7 to 2. Some of the outstanding players were Pitcher Mike Martinez. centerfielder Da- vid Duarte, and shortstop Andy Sanchez.
