wrwwvlfl 'wfww J 2 , There were only 65 members in the graduating class of 1918 at El Mont H' h ' ' ' ' e ig School, Yet, in this sixty-five, at least one of them was destined for great things. He went on to Pomona College. There he lettered in football, baseball, and track. Later he went on to Claremont Graduate School wh h ere e received his Master of Arts Degree in 1939. After graduating from Pomona he returned to El Monte High School as a teacher in September of 1921 H t . e con inued his interest in sports as a coach of all athletics, including girls' physical education classes and sports Along with teaching he coached the Varsity Football team f or twelve years. While he coached, the El Monte team had a record of ten league cha ' h' mpions ips and two second places. In 1929 he was appointed as a vice-principal of El Monte High School. Four years later he became principal ofthe night school there. Then in 1937 he was appointed principal of El Monte High School. Finally in 1952, he became superintendent of the El Monte High School District. He received the National Federation of State Hi h Sh I g c oo Athletic Association's Award. He has also received the Helms Foundation Aw d ' ar , in 1958, and a certificate of appreciation from the California Association of Secondary School Administra- tors, District 16. We'd like to take this time to let you know how happy we are to have you as our new principal. Although you've been here only a short time, you've already proven to us that you are a great person. You've shown us this not only in your deeds but in your whole attitude toward us, the students. Ever since you arrived you've been working for us and with us in everything you do. You probably don't realize how every little thing you do is noticed and really appreciated but we would like you to know at this time that it is. You've proven to us also how willing you are to help us with our prob- lems. Not only in your office when we bring our problems and compalints to you but nearly every day when you are on campus during the lunch periods. Here you are always glad to talk with everyone. Dr. McCroy, we hope you'lI be with us for many years to come, and that we, the students of Rosemead High School, may always have such a friendship with you.
