Brown. Front Row: M. Hoffman, I. Konen. The South Central Nebraska volleyball champs for 1969-70 are the Roseland Cardinals. The team started out with a heart-breaking season, losing many hard-fought games by only a couple points. Going into the Conference tournament with a 3-8 record, the girls first victory was over Holstein. Then advancing to an undefeated Trumbull squad the tenseness grew tighter, but with the backing of the fans and the spirit of the girls, the Cardinals pulled through to another victory to continue to the finals. Bladen was next to feel the sting of defeat as Roseland pushed on for the title. The game with Guide Rock was the deciding point ofthe tournament. By the win of two more straight sets the thrill and happiness of being Conference Champions was Roseland's to keep. The team also participated ina32-team tourna- ment in Hastings, placing in the top eight. The last game was lost to the eventual champs, Wilcox. This volleyball season will long be remembered in Roseland by the slogan that is posted in the hall Patti and Bonnie match skill R.H.S. is Number 1.1, Roseland State Bank 26 Roseland, Nebraska Oldest Banking Name in Adams County

They participated in track meets throughout the sea- son at Kenesaw, Bladen, G.l. Northwest and Hast- ings Chamber of Com- merce. They placed third in the Conference Track Meet and received a first place trophy for the 880 yard relay. Their efforts were well rewarded by their ex- perience and the fun they had while competing. 27
