' To The Faculty and Students: The school year of 1955 and 1956 may well be remembered as the year Rosedale began operating on split sessions. This was brought about by the building program which left us with limited classrooms and fa- cilities. In spite of the split sessions, the faculty has endeavored to uphold the high standard of scholarship for which Rosedale has always been noted. In order to accomplish this, it has been necessary to drop some of the activities which have been practiced in the past and devote a .larger percent of the school day to academic solids. To each member of the graduating class of 1956, I wish to say, that here at Rosedale we are confident you will take your rightful place among the high school graduates in our nation. We also hope for your success and happiness in your future endeavors. To those students returning to Rosedale for at least another year, may we look with pride upon the accomplishments which have already been achievedg yet, at the same time strive for higher goals. i ff 1 , U Ir, ,,-4. .,. -,, ,... . Rosedalians-Cum Land Until th-is year, the most familiar person to be seen at Rosedale, was Mr. Dudley F. Bentley, nur principal. But because of the in- crease in work and responsibility as a result of program, and the fact that Mr. not been too well, he felt he his duties over to someone else. the building Bentley has should turn I Mr. Bentley first came to Rosedale in 1926, teaching biolo-gy and general science. In 1933, he assumed his duties as principal, For the next 22 years, Mr. Bentley worked out thousands of schedules for students, kept their records straight, listened to their' trou- bles, attended nearly every sports and social activity at school, made 99W of the announce- ments over the P.A. system, disciplined those who needed it, and performed countless other 9 duties. Mr. Bentley is now teaching general sci- ence at Wyandotte High School. He is mar- ried and has two daughters. In the fall of 1921, a young woman join- ed the teaching staff at Rosedale. No doubt, her fellow teachers were unaware that Mrs. Sarah Howard would continue to teach here for the next 34 years. During her first year at RHS, Mrs. Howard taught glee club, orchestra and chorus, and was music supervisor of all schools in the Rosedale district. In 1929, she received a B.M. degree from the American Conservatory of Music. From Hays College, in 1936, she received a B.S. degree. A year later, she received her Masters degree from Columbia University. Since retiring Mrs. Howard has- been quite active. In the morning she works in her sister's drapery shop, and in the after- noon she assists the Mozart Club in putting on programs for veterans in various hospi- tals, as master of ceremonies. Mrs. Howard is living with her mother, and has no definite plans for the future. - -7-...l.......-.-L ua-an

In 1906 the annex was built on Mount Marty, a hill named for Albert Marty, who gave the land to the city for the building.
