Bentley was appointed principal of our high school. Since that time he has done an excellent iob of supervising the faculty and students. He works out all class, extracurricular, sport, and lyceum schedules for each year, attends school administrators' meetings, works with the PTA, supervises all school func- tions, and-presents problems for consideration to the Stu- dent Council. Mr. Bentley graduated from Sterling college, Sterling, Kan- sas, with a B.S. degree and received his M.A. degree at Kansas University. He then served on the Rosedale fac- ulty for a few years prior to his appointment as principal. He has proven himself to be not only an exceptional prin- cipal but also a loyal citizen of the Rosedale community. Two delegates from each senior high homeroom, one delegate from each iunior high homeroom, and the class presidents com- pose the Student Council. Meetings are called, not less than twice a month, by the pres- ident, the sponsor, or the principal. Largest of the proiects for this year was the adoption of a war orphan. A campaign was carried out and S180 collected from the students in homeroom. Also the council sponsored a study hall in the mornings before school, the iunior-senior basketball game. opening exercises over the speaker, a mixer, ente'rtained guests at the league festival, and kept scholarship records every six weeks. Officers elected to serve for this year's student council were, left to right, Karen Fleer, secretary, a iunior: Hale Parker, vice-president, a senior: Ruby Woolery, president, a senior: Eva Carstensen, sponsor: and Ed McCabe, treas- urer, a senior. The season's opener resulted in a 25 to 12 loss to West- port. Wayne Poe and Ioe Ventura scored the touchdowns for Rosedale, both tallies coming in the final quarter. The Wildcats lost their second game of the season to Ward in the first city contest 24-6. Wayne Poe scored the lone Rosedale touchdown. The Mt. Marty team suffered another blow to their mor- ale when they lost the first Eastern Kansas league game to Bonner Springs, 24 to 19. A 69-yard touchdown run by Poe, which was 'called back, was a deciding factor in the game. Poe went on to score all three of Rosedale's t. d.'s while Ventura accounted for the conversion. Even though the Paola game ended in a 20-20 tie, it was a moral victory for Rosedale, who was rated as a three touchdown underdog. Manuel Savala, Hines, and Poe accounted for the Rosedale tallies and Bill Hawkey and Poe converted for the other two points. Revenge is sweet thought the Wildcats as they trounced Washington 27-6 for the first Win of the year. The victory avenged a loss to Washington the year be- fore which dropped the Wildcats to a final first-place tie Hines, Dave Cline, Bob Estes. and Iohn Becker. Bottom row. Y Rosedale managed to tie up the score three times but it was not enough to overhaul the Olathe Eagles, who squeezed in a 27-26 victory. The scoring was divided among four backs with Poe scoring two touchdowns and Ventura and Savala one each. Ventura and Don White made the conversions. Rosedale's second victory of the season came with a 21-6 defeat of Turner. Wayne Poe again scored two touch- downs. Bill Hawkey, Mt. Marty quarterback, passed to Savala in the efid zone for the third. The Wildcats surprised the Kansas City sports world by playing the Argentine Mustangs on even terms for three quarters. The Mustangs finally scored in the fading minutes of play to give them a 14 to 7 victory and the city championship. Poeiscored both the Rosedale touch- down and the conversion. - The Wildcats ended up at the bottom of the City league and tied for third in the EKL. 53 'lfiiltli.htuumkll-'l9'l5:fix-5l'P5FETi2l'Q:1fZ5'f3l-5 f.', 3E7lf?-'if5?i- :ffl-Y-'fiii'-'.lfr .I.'59''-'SLLI'-Litwfrai...-1 ' '74 ff ' ju- .11 1-g 1, n 1 1 1 . . . 1 1 1, ., nf - r 1 is ,. 11: JK, , . 11,73 1.4.3. , .-A1 sv 1,1 , f.-f ,-. , -,-1 kr 3, vw.,-vv,fs.,,g7s,'..., .7 ,. sf- .X t 1 , 311' 11-1.1 A ,111 as -rw.1,.x1-.ff,.vg1,--gr 1 1 .s,,.fs.- ,QA '1.',, 14,-.-ff 1.:-1' ' J ' ' ' A1 1 f M42 11 ..-- Li -A...-..
