Large crowds attended all of Rosedale's home games the past season and were not disappointed in the brand of action they wit nessed The Westport Tigers brought a large number of follow ers and spectators at that con test numbered aproylmately 2,600 and al o topped the attendance mark of the home season Many service men, graduates, and former students of Rosedale were seen along with many other visitors and among them were ath letic stars of the ,ast The student body had good representa tion at all games and the pep club, sponsored by Miss Esther Nicklin, and the band directed by M Everett Brown gave the team excellent support The band also entertained at ralitimes, marcrlng and maneuvering on the field George Bell, were guests of the club and were treated to an elk dinner at the Gould hotel before the award was made Charles Teegaroen and Bill Tierney, junior co captains, pre sented the trophy to the school in a special assembly Letter awards were also given at that time Ward high was a close contest and with Rosedale for the honor but the better season record of the Wildcats won the decision Teegarden, Tierney, Earl Smith, Dan Ritter, and Lynn Winslow were given places on the various city all star teams 'I2 Two seniors, a junior, one sophomore and one freshman in spired pep SHG enthusiasm cheers at pep assemblies and all football and basketball games durlng 1945 44 Supporting Bettye Phill1ps,head cheerleader who had two years of previous experience, were Marguerite Reiter, another senior, Pat Parrott, a junior, Don Smith, sophomore, and Robert Hawkes, a freshman A good part of the success of the pep club was due to the cheerleaders Their ability of getting the student body to sup port the team to the fullest was The crowning event of the '43 football season was the awarding of the city chamaionship and a beautiful trophy by the Kiwanis club of Kansas City, Kansas The twenty 1ettermen,ten senlors,n1ne juniors, and one sophomore, to gether with student manager Gil bert Meyer, Principal D F Bent lev, Coaches Art Lawrence and .
